Favorite yellow daylilies

I realize quite a few daylily growers state yellow is not their favorite color. I was in that group until a few seasons ago. I have since noticed that the yellow ones add much needed contrast to my garden. It turns out that most of my yellow dayliles out perform the others……who knows why. Here are my favorite yellows, please add yours.

The yellow blooms are always perfect….no splotching or pale blooms.

Coyote Moon is at the top of my list. It has small blooms but is a bloom machine. The scapes are tall so it competes size wise with taller daylilies.

Faber Saber has had great increase and good bud count.

Simplicity in Motion has good bud count with delicate looking blooms.

Solar Blast is a wild double….. never know what the blooms will look like.

The Jury’s Out…….late and great bud count.

Sherry

I wasn't ready for the color list yet. Still so busy in the garden. I love yellow of course. Maybe later...............Houzz made me sign in. I guess they are improving or updating the site to make me go through this effort. I'm sure everyone else has all their pass words at their finger tips for all the various sites they are on, but for me it's always a scramble...........Maryl

I love yellow daylilies as they add pop to a garden full of reds, purple and pinks. Here are some of my favorites:

SILOAM MELVIN'S YELLOW: An early bloomer and a front of the border plant. Here it is with a polytepal bloom.

POLY ESTHER - Love the name. Polys about 25% of the time. Also an early bloomer.

SOLAR MUSIC: Probably my favorite as it is tall and the blooms are flat.

BUTTER CREAM: Is another nice one

JUST ANOTHER YELLOW: This is a fantastic intro from Curt Hanson. Substance is like plastic.

I also received an order from Curt Hanson this week. I ordered SHE'S LIKE A RAINBOW and he sent CRINTONIC IN LIVING COLOR and DASHING YOUNG AQUANAUT as gift plants.

    Have a great day.

I like your Jury's Out Sherry. A trumpet shaped form? Nice.......Kay: Have heard good things about Chicago Star from another southern grower. Googies was my top yellow for many years. It ended up being too tender for my pot system ........David: Butter Cream and Lunar Empire are my top 2.......This picture was easy pickings for me as it got 2 of my favorites together.

Rudy's Sister (not registered yet)on top and Sour Puss below:

Yellows are great! I like yellow daylilies. And yes, Sherry, also because the blooms are clean, no spots.

I especially like yours Simplicity in Motion. And Solar Blast but in second picture.

Kay, nice ones! My favorite is Reap the Whirlwind. And Butter Cream of David's.

Maryl, nice picture. Rudy's Sister is great - color and form. Can You register it?

    Five of mine:

American Freedom - very hard for me to capture the true color, it's darker yellow

Beautiful Edgings - not always perfectly open blooms but so pretty

    Prediction - so cheerful

Sherry Lane Carr - nice yellow

Yellow Titan - ok that's among my top favorites of all my daylilies

They all used to be better and Much better as young plants. I did find my notes and for example Sherry Lane Carr had 40+ buds one year and upper 30s next year. Well, not anymore. But it's what I got and I still love them.

Oh, honorable mention goes to.. Happy Returns, which was outstanding in the beginning of its blooming - 25-27 inch scapes and 20-40 flowers open for days. It is still flowering, reblooming now, usual short scapes and some in the foliage.

Maryl, I love Sour Puss, its a gorgeous bloom….your photos are always lovely!

Nat, Sherry Lane Carr is a beauty, so sad the bloom count has been down. My bud counts in general this past season were all lower.

Nat: Rudy's Sister is up north now awaiting in ground evaluation....... I used to grow Sherry Lane Carr, American Freedom and still grow Happy Returns. All were good growers, but Happy Returns is the best at color retention in our hot summers....Thank you Sherry for the comment on my pictures. I bought a new camera this summer. Hard to find what I wanted these days. I guess almost every one else is going to their Smart phones, but I'm still a land line, point and shoot camera Luddite.........Maryl

Yes, Sherry, it is sad, and I don't know how to help them.

Maryl, fellow Luddite checking in - land line, point and shoot, paper and pen grocery lists and my "fat" (non flat screen) TV! Although that will be soon taken away from me, I am afraid..

    Good news about Rudy's Sister!
