Um, I think it relates to the root, Jay, inasmuch as it makes a fat (and supposedly edible) root like salsify or carrot. Yep, we do call campanula rapunculus 'rampions' (not to be confused with the scarily spreading c.rapunculoides). Have also grown phyteuma scheuchzeri and jasione laevis. Campanulas were my favourite flowers for years and years...(not to mention my chosen user name) so I have worked through quite a lot of taller herbaceous types but even more alpine types and meadow flowers. Generally grow at least a couple of new ones every year (this year being c.moravica and c.bononiensis)...and a whole bunch (9) of edraianthus.
