Desperate for decoration and interior advice

Hi, Im desperate to update and make our living room and closet/office space a little cosy and add character but we’re currently renting and are limited to what we can do with the space.

Most of the furniture has to stay, although we can definitely update a few pieces.

The ugly carpet has to stay, ill get it cleaned but someone before suggested adding rugs to zone the areas better.

we decided the wardrobe needs to be closed off, but couldnt get the doors for it because of the layout so settled on adding the ceiling curtains, still to order and set up.

Not sure there is much we can do with the layout of the living room but it would be nice to have a dining area and a chill area.

Will welcome any help and ideas please! is there anything i can do to make these into happier and comfortable rooms?

Im really lost and confused by all the styling options and making the right choices.

the whole project starts with a good edit.

I would move the TV to above the radiator and mount it on a swivel bracket.

put the red sofa on the end (where TV is mounted now)

Table opposite TV with chairs. Upholstered chairs near sofa for conversation.

I would get another desk for under the window (where the table is now)

Close the french doors when you zoom. you'll have good light on your face and a simple background.

Keep the closet/room for storage looks like you struggle with personal belongings/travel bags... that won't change.

Ah sorry, didnt realise i hadn’t added the wardrobe photos. Just updated with two more images of the study/wardrobe room.

So currently, we sit on sofa and i hate it… my aim is to sort out the wardrobe ro so i can work from there - i do a lot of zoom calls so i need a clean background.

And we can use the table in the living room to have dinner. wether we keep the oval shape we have now or chabhe to round/other shape i dont know.

Thanks for adding the photos. Here are some ideas to try out for the living room:

Move the red sofa much closer to the tv. Put the oval table right behind the sofa with its two chairs arranged for dining.

Or pull the dining table away from the window and add the chairs. Remove the wood crate, move the lamp elsewhere, and put the big plant near the other window. Slide the red sofa sideways so that it is up against the other wall, so the traffic pattern allows people to walk by the sofa toward the tv.

For the closet and office:

Since you make a lot of zoom calls, you can either use a fake zoom background or you can make the room look good. I suggest that you finish rearranging the room so the doors will actually fit. Move the closet segment that is blocked by the desk to the other wall so that you can open doors on it.

You've made a big step in getting this nice closet set up. But as the saying goes, you can't put ten pounds of flour in a five pound sack. You will need to remove about 30% of what you have in order to fit everything into the closet. If you would like advice on decluttering clothes, just start a new post.

Is your sofa slipcovered? Can you get a different colour? I just saw that you said you hate sitting on the sofa. Is that because of its location? Is it uncomfortable? Are the chairs more comfortable?
