Window design question

I am planning to replace the two front windows on my duplex. The larger window is too wide to be a window that opens so current plan is to install a fixed picture style window. The smaller one on the left can be a window that opens so planning on a single hung.

My question is would it look okay to change the larger window into two windows (that could open)? I‘ll try to attach an as is photo with a simulation. I am keeping the colonial grid style. thank you for any advice /ideas.

I agree the 2 are better with the style of the house . I do not like grids but that is me.It would have a toatlly different look with no grids.

Cute house. Yes to all double hung windows. Maybe just have grilles on the upper half. How is this a duplex? I think all windows should match on a house.

Sweet duplex. Yes change the windows to two the mock up looks great.

Choose the windows carefully and make sure you see an actual mulled window set.

You might be surprised at how much less light will come through a double windows with wide frames and a wide mull.

Thank you for your responses and good ideas. To jck910 “how is this a duplex?”. It was originally built as a duplex, side by side townhouse style. Each side has a basement, 1st & 2nd floor. The door to the second apartment is on the right & not visible in this picture.

Side by side double hungs will look better than a picture window (we will be going a similar route with two large picture windows in our living room). Just be sure to pay attention to the proportions between the windows so that the windows on the right don’t look too compressed relative to the left side.

Windows that open are ideal. I'd recommend casement windows with a Prairie Style grid, Very attractive on a home of this era. Even better, if the gird are interior (between the panes of glass) they're way easier to keep clean..

Two single-hung windows that open not only look better, but they are better for air circulation. Beautiful windows for your beautiful house!

My house had a large picture window that didnt open with 2 narrow opening windows on each side. i had it changed to 4 opening windows & the rear smaller picture window changed to 3 opening windows. Get a great cross breeze now
