If you're going to live in this house, then I think you should do what feels comfortable to you in terms of the amount of space you're dealing with. Toilets are relatively cheap to swap out and if the house gets sold later the new owner can put in a different one if they want.

I have never heard of anyone not buying a house because the toilet(s) wasn't the style/model they would have preferred! Get whatever you like best.

My second house had 6 toilets that looked like they would need to be thrown away. Awful rings in the bowl. I still bought the house. The rings turned out to be mineral deposits that had been accumulating for a while and would not come clean with regular products. It took several hours and lots of pumice stones, but I got them cleaned up. The sellers kept an otherwise clean/decluttered house, so not sure why they neglected the toilets!

I have toilets with both round and elongated seats. The elongated ones are much more comfortable. Unless you have a specific REASON for a "comfort height" / "chair height" / "right-height" toilet, DON'T GET ONE! They are too high, thereby interfering with squatting and "going". Get a standard-height toilet. The original TOTO CST744S Drake Elongated Bowl and Tank is still available; buy it with a seat and be happy!

(The Toto CST744s elongated is 28" long while the Toto CST743S round is 26-3/8" long.)

Thanks all for your comments and perspectives. I did a Reno a few years ago and the supply chain was low. Needed it quickly. Asked my contractor to get comfort height elongated. He asked me about size and I thought distance from the wall for the ring or height! I was wrong. the bowls were humongous! It didn’t stop the sale. I learned there is a difference!!

The "rough-in" (distance of the center of the floor drain hole from the wall) is nearly always 12" but one should always measure to be sure.

I think it's only a matter of preference - to you, while living there. Our former house had comfort height round and I liked them. I'm 5'2", DH just under 6' and neither of us had any issues related to digestion.

All three toilets in this house are Kohler 1955 elongated and low. They are OK, no real complaints other than we aren't getting any younger and after a long day of chores on this acre lot, I notice they can be a bit hard to rise from some evenings. Evenings when I've got a backache 😊

I'm told I shouldnt like the comfort height but I do. If I remodeled these vintage MCM baths, I would put the higher models in. When mother was finally convinced to sell her home and move into a senior apartment, she tried three. The first setting had no medical staff on site at all - her choice. The second was supposed to having some nursing help but we could never find a nurse if we wanted to talk to one. #3 was flawlessly perfect with a small but efficient private apartment and an RN on the premises 24/7. Other trained medical personnel there always too. My point I was going to make....all of those senior living businesses had only the comfort height toilets in their bathrooms. I keep reading they are not as healthy for elimination but they are definitely easier to stand from once a certain age no matter the height of the user.
