I would. Plant them that is. Nearly everything is safer in the ground than in my untender care over a long winter.

But hey, there are 2 of them, so you can hedge your bets. One in, one out.

I have been on a manic spree to get as much hardy stuff in the ground as possible. If a seedling is big enough to prick out in a pot, (the first true leaves appearing) then I have been assuming the ground is the biggest pot of them all and they are taking their chances outside.

Depending on what kind of hydrangea, I'd be inclined to wait to plant until spring. Overwinter them somewhere that stays cold but above freezing....not inside the house. They will need minimal attention. Just enough water to prevent them from drying out fully and light is not a concern. Wait to move them to protection until after they drop their leaves.

"Annabelle" as you know is way hardy. But as HU-etc suggested how about trying one out and one remaining in the pot (assuming you can safely removed one).

I’d plant it..I’ve moved small volunteers of White Dome (an arborescens with lacecap blooms) and all have survived..

I planted both pieces in an area where they will get some morning sun but afternoon shade. I’m hoping they take!

plant immediately and let ma nature winter them over... native soil .. water in well.. and mulch heavily on late fall.. after ground freeze if you can....

Ken we miss you too, so trade in that POS laptop and get one you can type on easily. It is like a foo foo plant. Wouldn't you say toss it if it is not making you happy.
