That shadow storm is gorgeous! As far as lemons and tomatoes - using a cutting board with a channel. Then you will have no issues. You should not be cutting directly on any countertop.

The super white or river white would be nice in the bathroom.

We need to know how big the island is. I like poished real stone the best and IMO to have fake and real together in the same space is never good. I wish you would have come nmuch sooner since I see tiny drawers not suitable for good storage . Yoy now have a busy floor You do not chop on either of those counters ever . The real stone will ruin your knives and t he fake will get scratched invest in nice big cutting boards and my advice keep one beside the sink always . Why are you showing the bathroom ? I ssume that is the bathroom with the patterned floor . Since you have a different color cabinet for the island IMO the same stone for all the counters is best too many finishes is just plain too many .Any of those granites polished will work and IMO also for backsplash to keep it simple .

Crown is being installed as well as additional trim. I have updated the post to include measurements. Also, the island will include a prep sink that is 19 inches shown where the blue and red are sticking out.

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors there will be a sink in the island, and believe it or not, this was my first inclination since I do not enjoy eating off stone as I prefer a warmer surface. The islands made of two materials was just too chopped up for me.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting the busy floor is the bathroom. I have updated post to include measurements of island znd bathromm vanity, which I added on since it was another countertop issue. I tend to agree with you about the real and fake, but considdered it since i have teens plus a pool, which equals more teens, lol. The beige-y floors are throughout the whole house, less bathrooms and laundry.

IMO real polished stone will stand up to any teens anytime . I would hesitate to do a wood counter unless you do not mind that it needs work to keep it looking new and honestly IMO you still need cutting boards and I still think all one counter for it all is best .

I like the colonial white with your wood floors and the pendants over the island.

I love both the Shadow Storm and Super White, polished. I’ve had granite since my kids were tweens and for me it’s been bullet proof. Sealed once with a 15 year sealer and never again. I never cut directly on countertops but we’ve never babied the stone. River White is pretty and I love the reddish dots. My daughter has had it a few years and she’s tired of the overall dottiness and trying to find the real crumbs.

Edit: that should be Colonial White, not River White.

I think we are paralyzed because the island is so large (9ft x 4ft) we don't want to get it wrong.

4' is awfully wide. Hard to clean the middle. An island this size can easily overwhelm the space.

No. Don't go with mismatched countertops:

- You already have mismatched cabinets -- adding two countertops is "too much". You run the risk of looking like you bought what you could off the clearance rack.

- The mismatched look is almost impossible for a non-pro to "get right".

- Especially don't go with one real stone and one quartz -- real + fake doesn't match.

My vote would be for you to do a butcher block surface on the island

I love the look of butcher block, but I know I'd be upset when it got messed up -- which, in my life, would be about Week 3.

I'm not into the current marble /marble-look /gray-with veining look. Of everything here, I prefer the Colonial White.

Have you considered going very simple with White Corian? It's not cutting edge trendy; rather, if exists outside the world of styles /trends. It'll match anything and won't look "old" in a couple years.

I'd think about that White Corian OR a black soapstone (or granite) for the bathroom. The floor is already busy /already the star. You need something simple, something that'll blend in rather than stand out.

Have you considered heated stone? Kinda like heated tile floors. Not particularly common.

I like the polished Super White. It will be durable for your family and it’s beautiful.

For the bathroom, simple is better. The floor is the showstopper so look for a black soapstone or a polished Virginia Mist (it’s a deep gray most times, sometimes medium gray). Try to avoid a lot of movement in whatever goes in the bathroom.

You may want to take a peek at Silestone for the bathroom since it has a lot of nice solid colors and will survive your teenagers. Take one tile with you to see the color options.

LOVE leathered super white! For kitchen…Polished Shadow storm 2 for bathroom….we had a 16’ island in our last house and we loved it! miss it so much..new home has 12’ with a prep sink…would not do a prep sink in island if possible…we just don't use it and I really miss all the counterspace! your choices so far are beautiful..the kitchen pendants are amazing! where are they from?

IMO the wood will still be one too many counters . BTW my island is 50 x108 not an aissue and I love that people can work on both sides .

The formula usually goes: 2 different cabinet colors, use one counter.

With all the same cabinetry, you can use two.
