Majestic! I did not know to look for them either.

My DD called me at 10 p.m. and told me to go outside, so glad she did. Had I known earlier I would have seen them dancing. tj happy you saw them and sad you did not Debra. Lisa I wish for you to see them one day. lat62 I imagine you might see them often. Paula they are definitely worth a trip. Sherry family a couple of hours away missed because of cloud cover too. I hope you get another chance. A pity you missed them lindalana. Ann if you get another chance get to an open space. These free shows are pretty spectacular.

Gorgeous - what great photos!!

Hubs and I stayed a few days in northern Michigan last week and were able to see them from our hotel balcony. It was my first time seeing them and they were amazing!

That is wonderful. Did you go specifically to see the show or was it a great bonus?

I have never managed to see them in this country (England) but have in both Scotland and Iceland. Photos really don't begin to capture that kinetic depth of light and movement, do they? Although you gave it a pretty good go, Perenne (Laurie?)

I did get to see the summer Perseids this year (and will be waiting and hoping to catch the autumn Leonids).

Who else bought a telescope for their kids, took ages setting it up...for it to be more or less ignored? Mine is currently set up on top of the zipline in my wood, so very occasionally, I might remember to get myself up to Norfolk, brave the rickety ladder and squint hopefully at the wonderfully unpolluted night sky (because rural).

We went ”up north” to see the fall colors, and the northern lights were a bonus, and a lovely one at that! We could even see them with the naked eye (albeit faintly), they were so pronounced.

My adult kids in SE Michigan could also see them with their phone cameras, but of course the light pollution limited the show. They were excited nonetheless. :-)

Campanula so glad you have experienced them. (Yes Laurie) Pictures can never do justice to one of natures most magnificent shows but it was worth a go! I enjoyed the Perseids and also hope to catch the Leonids but it seems this year the nearly full moon will interfere. I have had a telescope for years and should set it up just for general viewing since I am rural.

There is too much light pollution to the north of my location to view the aurora, but with clear skies to the west/southwest earlier this evening (and some binoculars) it was exciting to be able to see the comet. And apparently this comet won't be back: "The orbital period of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was calculated to be more than 80,000 years, however, as it travel through the Solar System, gravitational interactions with other objects can alter the orbit. The most current calculations from NASA's Solar System Dynamics (SSD) group show that it is on a hyperbolic path, meaning that it will not return." (from WVU Planetarium and Observatory)
