Mail in Ballot update

I still have not received the mail in ballot which was returned to the county clerk a few weeks ago as undeliverable and then remailed. I still have hope since Monday was a postal holiday, maybe it will still show up. The county elections clerk said that if I don't receive it I will still be able to vote in person which is decreasing my anxiety about the mail in ballot.

I hope it comes but nice you have the option to vote in person if it doesn't. Mine came in the mail earlier this week but I still have to study the voter's pamphlet for some of the down ballot people and referendums.

I receive emails from the Supervisor of Elections office at every step in the process. Notifications; When they are about to send the ballot, when the ballot has been mailed to me, when they have received the completed ballot back. I feel secure that my ballot will be safely counted.

side note; before Milton was about to hit, my brother who lives hours away suggested I complete my ballot and tape to the ceiling. He promised to go through any debris to recover it and get it to the elections office for me. He was joking, kind of.

My son is still waiting for his. Seems like he requested it awhile ago. He can always walk in and vote. I dropped my completed ballot in the drop box and got an email saying it was received.

I hope you get it soon, Lucille. I finally got my driver's license yesterday. I guess that's not too bad, less than two weeks.

We received our replacement ballots on Tuesday, one week after they were mailed. We received ballots at our previous address 10 days ago, and I called the voters' office to ask why those had been sent, and they told us to shred those and use the replacement ballots with the correct address. I changed my address six weeks ago.

We mailed in our ballots today and went to the post office to do this, rather than go to a drop box location, which are closed on weekends. I've mailed my ballots before, tracked them, and found that they were delivered and counted.

We received ours just a handful of days ago, I filled mine out last night and DH did his this morning. He took them inside the PO and mailed them today. I didn't want to have them sitting on my desk where I had to think about them, feeling just a bit anxious about the outcome of two of the races.

We did not get a Voters Pamphlet. Does the wording on those initiatives have to be so complicated? I almost have to read them out loud to know if I need a Yes, or a No to achieve my preferred choice. I looked up a couple online and we did discuss those just making sure a Yes didn't really mean no, a rejection. But completed, mailed, and now out of my hands.

The initiatives are written so it's hard to know whether a Yes or No is the correct response. I confess that I often consider who the supporters are to make my final decision.

" The initiatives are written so it's hard to know whether a Yes or No is the correct response. "

Very true. They also are often structured to be what in legislative parlance would be described as a "Christmas Tree". That's when a basic law is drafted as a vehicle for legislators to hang their own favorite "ornaments" on the tree, whether or not related to the main topic of the law. In an initiative, it may be an added sales tax to fix potholes, add a lane to the highway, and in small print, build an additional parking lot next to a major contributor's yacht club "for public use". Bad example, but something like that. So that you have to consider the details if the added, extraneous and off topic "ornaments" put into the initiative are acceptable to pay for or allow along with the major topic.

Bunny, I also consider who wrote the arguments, pro and con, and think its a helpful factor. It makes me angry to see props written in such a twisted way so as to garner votes by deception.

Bunny, I also consider who the supporters are before making a decision. We have a local initiative AA that was confusing because it was difficult to tell what the real consequences of it would be, but it appears to have been written so that a local hospital could be bought by a corporation in PA and turned into a for-profit hospital, instead of serving the local population. The local nurses association opposed it, but I received a text message a couple of days ago from a source that identified itself as a nurses association urging me to vote yes. I think this was probably very deceptive, and I did not fall for it, but it looked legit.

I reluctantly voted against a referendum that had a good core issue ruined by one stipulation. It was for requiring health insurance to pay for in-vitro (which I support), but it stipulated unlimited attempts. (What? How many attempts are reasonable, especially if it's 'covered'?)

Lars, why would the voter's office need you to shred your ballots that went to wrong address?

^I guess they want to make sure that no one else finds my unused ballot. It was no problem for me to shred it, as it was unusable.

Earlier, I said that my state has a ballot-tracker online, and that I'd used it in prior elections. Wrong! I can track my ballot online within my county, but the State of Illinois is one of only three states that do not provide this service statewide. Wyoming and Missouri are the other two. IDK why or how these three have become outliers.

I have checked, and my ballot was received and deemed valid.

@lucillle, did you ever receive your ballot?

I completed and mailed mine on Tuesday. This is in my email box this morning (Thursday).
