Favorite water marked daylilies

Please show us your favorite water marked daylilies.

Sweet Isabella is probably a favorite of many of us.

Smurfette has been slow to establish. I’m hoping the move I made this summer helps.

Night Moves, love this velvety bloom.

Morrocan Sunrise has been a great addition, good multiplier and bud count.

Gently Down the Stream has been a great plant, luccky me…it was a bonus.

Claudine’s Charm is one of my favorites in the garden.

Baby Blue Eyes, a great front of the border plant.

    I love watermarks.

It's hard to pick just one, Sherry. All of these are amazing. But if I was required to choose, it would be Moroccan Sunrise.

    Allegheny Skyline

    Astral Voyager

    Glory to His Name

    Vt September Star

    Full Grown x Chance Encounter

Sovereign Queen. Some years great, others not very good. This was a bad year so here's last years bloom. I need something that does better in this color/form range. I've had others like it and they did even worse and are gone.

Brad, I love Allegheny Skyline! Have you had it long? I am not remembering seeing it.

Sherry - Morracan Sunrise and Night Moves are my favorites of yours.

Brad - Allegheny Sunrise is looking good! I did send it to you two Springs ago. Astral Voyager never looked that dark in my garden. I like its darker color.

Here are some of mine with pretty watermarks that I left behind.

Allegheny Skyline is one I grew for many years. I'm surprised Sherry doesn't remember it. Julia also grew it at one time. I didn't take it, or any of my other Hansons, although I had meant to take several.

All of My Love to You is one I'd like to replace.

    Browns Ferry Queen of Hearts

Carolina Pale Face was in my Top 25 favorites, but it got left behind in the stress and frenzy of moving.

Confessions of a Hemaholic got dug and I thought I brought it with me, but I couldn't find it anywhere as I was planting. The same thing with Miss Demeanor. I did plant one that I know had the wrong label. Maybe it will be turn out to be one of those or a seedling I can't find but know I dug.

Sweet Prairie Wind was another watermarked beauty I intended to bring. It also got dug but somehow failed to make the trip.

I sent Watermelon Summer south I think to Kate.

Two Sues was another good Hanson that was left behind.

Beautiful watermarks. I like Sweet Isabella, Sweet Prairie Wind and Browns Ferry Queen of Hearts.

Here are a few of ours.

Je Suis Charlie was really pretty this year after being buried in weeds for a couple of seasons.

It's Glad Cows Don't Fly is a great grower in our garden.

It seems like an orange with a watermark is not very common. Heavenly The Great Pumpkin is pretty but so far it is not a good grower here.

Tropical Tease is a great grower and one of my favorites as far as color goes.

Princess Sonja has not proven to be a good increaser but has really pretty flowers.

I love a watermark on a daylily like this. This is Edward Abbey.

Spacecoast Velvet Valentine is another favorite.

    That's all for me.

Everyones' pictures are great. I like them all.

Here are some from my garden:

MAN OF SORROWS: I just love red and deep rose colored daylilies with watermarks.

    HITS DIFFERENT

    SPIRITUAL CORRIDOR

    FRIEDA ALLEN JERRELL

    SUPERMODEL

    That is all from me.

I'm enjoying seeing the favorite watermarked daylilies.

David - How does Supermodel perform for you. I like the colors of Hits Different. Did it regularly have sepal problems for you?

Nancy - I like Heavenly The Great Pumpkin. Sorry to see it's not a good grower for you. How long have you had it? Spacecoast Velvet Valentine is really pretty too!

    Debra,

Supermodel grows like a weed for me and has many blooms. That is an early bloom on HITS DIFFERENT. Subsequent blooms did not have problems with the sepals. It is a good plant for being a first year plant.

Debra, nice watermarks. I do hope some of the ones you thought you brought show up.

Nancy, I really like Tropical Tease and Spacecoast Velvet Valentine.

David, FRIEDA ALLEN JERRELL is an absolute favorite and I look forward to its posting. I think Mantis has it too. Man of Sorrows is another great one.

Many cultivars did not do well in the past year, and All of My Love to You was one of them. Few flowers and shorter-than-usual scapes. It really was a bad year here, and we are still in exceptional drought--the only lifesaver having been the remnants of Helene, which gave us two inches of rain in September. But the dry trend has continued in October, with only a few tenths of an inch of rain. Since June, we are seven inches below normal. Still, Helene allowed plants to bounce back.

Two watermarked Hansons that show promise are Storm Surge and Edge of Irrelevance, with the latter being taller, and the former larger. Both bloom reliably, but it takes so long to see them at clump strength that they still are under evaluation.

Love all the watermarks which is one of my favorites to grow. A busy time here in WV for me this year lots of ups and downs so not much time to post but I do read the forum.

Mantis - Sorry to see you are in an exceptional drought. We were in a moderate drought here in Indianapolis in September. The Helene rain got us out, but we've only had seven tenths of an inch of precip in October. This is the driest October on record here. There was a slim chance of rain this morning, but we didn't get it. The drought has made the ground so hard and nearly impossible to dig.

Debra, I have the same situation here, driest October on record for us. we did get an inch of rain overnight, hurray.

Debra, we have had Heavenly The Great Pumpkin for maybe 3 years. We got it planted later than we like--July--the year we got it. I suspect it's somewhat tender. It has the 'Heavenly' name but is mostly Spacecoast genetics. Spacecoast Velvet Valentine has done well for us.

Just to explain terminology. Moderate drought, then the next worst category of severe drought, then the worst category of exceptional drought. We have been in exceptional drought since early August.

Forever Everett. Looks as though it will be good, but it takes so long for those single fans to multiply to a clump.

Discerning Heart. Nice flower and decent height, but I can see not a fast increaser.

Christopher Hitchens was shorter (and always shorter than registered), but did make a nice display (a later bloomer).

She's Like a Rainbow bloomed low this past year. A disappointment, but many cultivars were subpar. The strange winter was, I think, the main culprit. Those mild Februarys don't seem good. But we did not have really late freezes.

Guayabera has good height, but the scape is not ideal. For much of the summer, many blooms throughout the garden were washed out from the heat. Not an ideal season to judge color.

Sherry - I'm glad you got some of that rain. Our next chance is on Halloween. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Mantis - It sounds like this was one of the driest years for you. I like the looks of Discerning Heart and Christopher Hitchens.

This is a very pretty post. I to have been to busy to post much, but I enjoy seeing all the posts.

Sherry, Sweet Isabella is a favorite in my garden for sure, and I don't remember Smurfette. I probably should add that beauty since that is my little black cat's name.

Brad Allegheny Skyline is awfully pretty, and I am sorry that Sovereign Queen had a bad year this year because it is awfully pretty.

Debra, All my Love to You is lovely, as are all of them and Watermelon Summer is one of your gifts that is planted in my garden, thank you. I can send you a start of Confessions of a Hemaholic in the spring if you want it.

Nancy, I like Heavenly Giant Pumpkin sinc, like your Bob, orange is a favorite. SC Velvet Valentine is gorgeous!

David, I always enjoy Man of Sorrows in my garden too. Super Model is a really lovely one.

Mantis, both Storm Serge is beautiful and Forever Everett is lovely. Unfortunately, I can fully sympathize with the extreme drought situation. The last rain we had was courtesy of Beryl in September and none is in forecast at all for my area. The irritating higher temps have been an additional annoyance.
