Closet help pls

This is a reach in closet in the bedroom, intended for my husband. I am looking to add a bit of shelf space by going into the space to the right. This idea led me to consider adding rods etc.I would love some ideas on making the most of the space. Is there room to do 2 rods in part of it? Thank you for help.

Are the 10", 20", and 40" dimensions measured inside the closet or outside?

How wide is the opening? 21-1/2" doesn't seem right.

What kind of door is on the closet?

Does your husband need more hanging space or shelf/drawer space?
