Some areas have a lot of windblown dust from yards, others have dust from industry or roads. If you don't want dust to show up quite so quickly as it does now, work with the dust color, don't contrast with it. Try scooping up a tablespoon of yard dirt, put it on some white paper and take a photo.

apple-pie has a great idea! Our last two cars were gravel road tan, and we rarely had to wash them.

If you do stick with white, replace the downspouts with white as well.

Thank you - yes, my thought was to pick a grey that blends with the grime we see. But my husband thought our house would just look dirty all over.

Definitely paint the downspouts to blend with the siding.

It seems like someone tried to turn a colonial into a modern farmhouse, which will never happen.

Gutters are not a feature and should be the same color as the fascia. Downspouts should match the wall they run down.

The black windows are the real problem.

If you want the house to look more modern (trendy might be a better word), then get rid of the colonial -- not the house, just the colonial parts.

Then consider paint.

Thank you for the feedback - most of these photos blend the white with white windows, but ours are black. Would grey paint with white trim and black windows also work? And changing the gutters on the house isn't really on our list for this work. Are you saying if we paint the house grey, we'd need grey downspouts and gutters?

Agree farmhouse is the way to go...

As to the issue of the white paint showing dirty, make sure you have the best exterior paint, choose a semi-gloss finish to stand up to a light power washing. We use B.M. soft gloss exterior.

Your husband is wright.

It would not look modern.
