My first DA catalog had Royal Jubilee in it but when I went to order it, it was unavailable. I have never heard of anyone growing it. Of all the rosarians on social media who have extensive rose gardens, no one ever mentions it. I have asked before if anyone grows it, and there was no answer. I don’t know the back story on this rose, whether it was susceptible to disease or poor vigor or what but, it’s like a ghost. No one sells it, as far as I can tell no one grows it

It's still sold in England and I've not heard that it's due for deletion. I used to have it, grows tall, best on support I think, very healthy, plentiful foliage and quite large, sometimes globular, sweetly scented blooms, I describe as sugar sweet. Not overly thorny either. No idea how it does in U.S.

I purchased royal jubilee from roses unlimited in SC . She dosnt show her Austin’s online anymore but possibly may still sell it . There’s another vendor , k and m roses that may have it as well.

Mine has lived in a pot since I got it and is a very pretty rose . I’m glad it’s surviving bc I had no idea it would be hard to replace . We get so hot here but its spring flush is always lovely . I’m sorry I’m not interested in parting with it , I hope you can find one too .

I have Royal Jubilee here in the PNW and she is damn near flawless. I can’t imagine her not

doing well pretty much anywhere since here she grows within 10 feet of a large leaf maple

so only gets morning sun and her water is constantly stolen by tree roots.

Would you consider mailing a few cuttings from yours? I have never tried to grow from a cutting but it would be worth a try. I would of course cover all costs.

The moment I saw David Austin opened in the United States a few weeks ago I went in and snagged the Royal Jubilee I was looking for for years. It was around my birthday so it was my gift to me!

I'm so lucky my timing was perfect, it quickly sold out.

Of course it's for next spring shipping so fingers crossed (given what's gone down the past year with vendors) but I am hopeful!

There is hope. Though it is currently out of stock, Royal Jubilee is still one of the featured roses in the "The Royal Collection". I just received an email titled "regal blooms with a Royal Touch" that didn't actually include Royal Jubilee, but the link in the email takes you to a page that does show it.

I swear I saw that one (Royal Jubilee) on pre-sale on the DA site. It went out of stock quickly. I remember thinking of getting it but got Jubilee Celebration,Evelyn, CRM, & Alnwick instead.

I did find her (and other rare roses) for sale on Rose Explosion website. Has anyone here ordered from them? The feedback on the FB Rose Vendor Feedback page is mostly positive, but it seems almost too good to be true and the prices are $$. I'm tempted to give it a try with my best dispute-protected card but would really appreciate any firsthand experiences!

Wouldnt it be so lovely if David Austin did mini restocks of some of the cool older ones whenever they were available. I mean, it would keep us all guessing, keep us ordering directly from them with a guarentee and confidence that they are healthy plants and hopefully minimize the etsy sellers from selling DA etc (they would still sell them of course but if I could get them from DA, I would!)

Lily, I have been aware of this website called Rose Explosion for some time now. I must admit that I’ve been very tempted to order from them, but haven’t done so. They ship from China. I asked them in a chat session if they had the necessary qualifications to send roses to the USA and if they able to ship them fast enough that they would arrive in good condition. They assured me that their shipper has the necessary qualifications and they’re guaranteed to arrive safely. I still haven’t bit the bullet. I tend to err on the side of caution. I am curious about other’s experiences.

Yikes Judi-- that vagueness would lead me to believe they do not adequately check for diseases or pests. You could be importing a new rosette-type disease!

Well, that’s a bit of the same feeling they gave me too, Carla. I feel uneasy about ordering from them until I know they are above board on the disease issue as well as other issues. I’m not going to criticize others who don’t share my hesitation, but I do feel there’s reason for it, even if I am badly tempted by some of the DA varieties they offer that are not available here otherwise. It’s the lure of the unattainable perhaps, but not only that: Summer Song is just the color and form I salivate over and DA decided not to sell it here and I want it. That’s the reason that Rose Explosion is so badly tempting me! So far, I have resisted, but I see they are running a Black Friday special and I am feeling weak. I may need my fellow rosarians on this forum to strengthen me. :)

I’ve been wondering if some Etsy rose sellers might actually be sourcing from China rather than growing locally. I ordered a Masora, Summer Fireworks, and Confiture from one seller. Unfortunately, the Masora didn’t survive, but the other two are thriving and blooming like crazy.

The seller offered to replace the Masora, but they were sold out and couldn’t give me a clear timeline—anywhere from three months to a year. Their responses raised some red flags for me. They didn’t seem to know basic details about availability or propagation, which you’d expect from someone growing their own stock. It gave me the impression they might be acting as a middleman.

I haven’t placed another order on Etsy, even though I’ve had really good luck with everything I’ve purchased in the past. The temptation of Rose Explosion is undeniable, especially when it comes to those rare, unattainable varieties.

If Royal Jubilee didn’t hold so much sentimental value for me and wasn’t so difficult to find, I would never even consider ordering from a supplier in China. It’s definitely not a decision I’d take lightly, but the allure of finally securing this elusive rose is hard to resist.

Judi, your scruples do you much credit. There are so many unscrupulous buisness practices ,and horticulture is one of those fields that such practices could well put all of us and our environments in danger. This Etsy stuff really scares me. Here in Italy there isn't enough of a market for roses, so if you go on Etsy here and look up "roses" you just get clothes, ornaments, etc-no live plants,thank Heaven. However the modern world being what it is, things that happen in the USA, China, etc can and do effect everyone, as we saw with Covid .Recently I was totally horrified to learn that Japanese beetles have by now made their way into an area in northern Italy-hopefully the efforts being made to contain the problem to that area will be successful.

Lily Spencer, I do hope indeed that you will be able to find Royal Jubilee without messing around any more with these shady rose dealers. If I was in the US, I'd definitely root you a cutting from mine (if it's still alive, that is, lol. It's in a recently highly neglected area of my garden...note to self, check up on this and move the plant to a better spot) . I sympathize with the temptationfeeling very much. Worse yet, with me, I fear that I am subject to lusting after certain roses just because I can't get them! This is a thing I really dislike about myself.

Lily Spencer I hope you find this rose soon. I can’t believe how difficult it has gotten to secure one. I wish you had inquired a few months early as I shoveled pruned 3 Royal Jubilee when I sold my house and I would have happily rehomed them to you. The new owners did not want any of the work that came with roses, and I only moved some of the top healthy varieties with me as moving 500 ish roses was too much for me.

Judi - I am on the north side of Tucson so not too far away from you! It is wonderful to meet another Arizona grower so close by.

Dianela - I wish our paths had crossed before you had to shovel prune. I am so curious which of your 500 roses made the move—that must have been such a difficult decision!

Lily Spencer I live in an area with heavy black spot pressure and find myself not wanting to spray anymore. I only moved some of the healthier ones which included Olivia Austin, Bathsheba, Teasing Georgia, Mel’s Heritage, Raspberry Cream Twirl, Earth Angel, Spirit of Freedom, Bordeaux Cityscape and Flamenco Rosita. It was too laborious to move them so I gave up and started over.

Lily, I’m so glad to hear that you’re not too far away! I get to Tucson quite frequently. I’d love to hear about your favorite nurseries in the Tucson area. I’m quite fond of Mesquite Valley Growers, but I haven’t checked out all the other available options.

Jena: I’ve been on High Garden’s notification list for RJ restocks for so many months, but they don’t have a timeline for when it will be available again. One Love offers to propagate RJ, but it can take up to two years, and they require payment upfront—which feels a bit off to me. I truly appreciate your help, though!

Judi: MVG has such an amazing selection! Have you ever been there for their rose release day? I think it’s in early May, but that’s too late for me—I prefer to finish my spring planting by March before it gets to 100 degrees. My personal favorite is Rillito Nursery. Every plant I’ve purchased from them has been fantastic. I have petunias that are over four years old and still thriving!

Lily,be careful with that "One Love" nursery. To judge by what I've read on this and the garden org. forum, many people were extremely unhappy with them.

Sorry, Lily, I just now saw your message to me on Dec 4. I’m behind the times! Yes, I’ve been to MVG on their Run For the Roses event. I believe it’s always the first Saturday of April and they’re always potted roses, not bare root. So they do well planted out into the garden later. And you’re so right- they have an incredible selection!

I missed it. So sad!
