A kitchen refresh

The time had come to refresh our old wooden kitchen, take down a conservatory, build a new room and try and create a nice family space. It took a while to select the units, choose the colours, appliances and bits and bobs but we are really pleased with the new look. Hope you like it.

Wow, very cool. Would have never thought to have used that shade of purple in a kitchen...but it looks great. Lots of nice storage also.

We were originally going to go with a green on the feature walls but then wanted everything to match this photo that we had blown up of a trip we took to Naples FL last year. Wasn't quite sure if the purple would go ......

Love it. The colours look so warm and inviting. What is the size of your island bar? I love the side storage
  • 12 years ago
Hi Meowl34, thanks for your comments. The island measures 2.2m by 1.5m, the 1.5m side includes a 0.3m over hang for the breakfast bar.

Looks Fab-U-Lous! Love the purple, very well done!

Did you keep the door pulls all the same size

Thanks for that. One more question, what is the gap you allowed between your bench and island bar?

It fabu. My friend would probably copy everything when I show it to her. What are the floors? They look great too

Much nicer but one thing I don't agree on is the lack of a hood vent.

In answer to the last couple of questions, the floor is MODULEO TRANSFORM CLICK 'VERDON OAK' 24962 VINYL FLOORING PLANK, I've also attached a plan of the kitchen that shows dimensions and units used. We ended up moving the island a bit further away from the fridge, just went with what looked best and made sure we left plenty of room for a walkway past the chairs and island bar. Most of the cupboards are 600 wide apart from the drawer beneath the hob which is 1000, and the larder units either side of the fridge which are 500 wide.

Sorry, forgot to comment on the lack of a "hood vent", the main reason we didn't go for one this time is because I was forever smacking my temple on the last one ! I thought one day it would knock me out ..... I seriously thought about taking a hammer to it on more than one occasion to get in a preemptive strike!

The Neff ceiling extractor is pretty powerful, obviously not as effective as a hood but does a god job and more importantly doesn't get in the way.

I must admit, for my personal tastes, I loved your old cabinets! Gorgeous, but your new kitchen is stunning as well. Two very different styles, but either way, you have fantastic taste. Nicely done!!

Omg, I didn't realize you posted the flooring. It's so funny cause we have made the decision to go with vinyl. Have not seen this one yet. Will look into it. Thanx

The cabinets around the tv are from Ikea ... great for storing boxes and boxes of lego and quite sturdy so very kid proof
