awkward angels ceiling

Hi!
My bedroom has dormers which I love but I don’t love the asymmetrical ceiling line. Do y’all have any suggestions for what would help this situation?
I know the leather chair doesn’t look good here- but hubby loves it.

So embarrassing, not only do I not know how to decorate I also evidently cannot spell the word angle!

I would paint the ceiling and the walls the same color - it will really de-emphasize all the angles (the current paint creates a hard line that stops the eye) -

oops cross-posted with Yvonne, but yes I agree with her :)

You might be able to edit it, although I did click just to see what an awkward angel looked like!

I'd paint the room all one color.

@Wanda Haltom - Hilarious! Don’t fret about that - Your post title really intrigued me & when I read the text I was checking my own spelling. 🤣 BTW - I think the title can be modified in the edit post function. But, it’s fun so my vote is leave it.

So, about the dilemma you posed - My first impression at viewing first pic is to paint the angle same as the ceiling & it won’t pop out due to the contrast. Looking at second pic, I think it might still work but it’s a longer angle on right wall than left. The middle angle on both sides matches right. It might work to paint the left wall angle & also include the left side wall in the ceiling color down to a level that matches the other 3 walls. Then when looking straight at those windows your eye will see ceiling color down to a level line across the horizon of all 4 ceiling angles. I might paint the bit of wall above both windows the ceiling color too. Hope that all makes sense.

ETA: I see the 3 posts that appeared while I was working on mine suggest all one color. That certainly works too. Depends on how much you want a lighter ceiling. Maybe ceiling can be 50% of the wall color so still lighter intensity of wall color.

It looks like the big chair just needs a little more room. Can you move everything, bed, nightstands, pictures, a little to the left?

Thank you to all that sent the advice! Wow- I never saw that the ceiling color was the main problem! It makes total sense and so evident from the consensus. And I totally see it now! Now just have to get hubby talked into paining.
So happy I found all you lovely people!

Ps- I tried to find the “edit” button to correct my misspellings but to no avail 🤣

+1 to same paint color for the ceilings and walls.

Are you able to move the chair to the other side of the bed? Then slide the bed to the right/closer to the window so it is more centered on the wall under the ceiling where there is no slope.

I like the idea to paint the entire space the same color. It looks like you get some great natural light in there so it shouldn't make the room darker but know that sometimes the same paint put on the horizontal plane (ceiling) can sometimes translate as a darker shade compared to the wall. Don't let it stop you, but maybe test one of the dormers using the paint you have to see how it looks.

You are getting good advice (imho). I enjoy very much a painted ceiling anyway, and I paint all of mine. I'm not lucky enough to have such an interesting room as yours. I would enjoy the angles and interest it provides!

I'd probably paint the slanted part of the ceiling the same as the walls, but not the flat party. I'll also note you have very symmetrical decor around your bed, which accentuates the asymmetrical ceiling. A plant in the corner behind the chair might be a place to start with asymmetry.

Good advice from all different perspectives. You can take it in stages to see how you like all one color. That is, paint the angles but leave the flat ceiling where fan is & the slight angle on the chair side white. That might be less daunting than painting the whole ceiling. About the chair - my guess is that it’s aligned with a TV on the dresser that faces the bed. Can the TV be angled so it can be seen from bed & chair on the left side of bed? Or, can the chair move forward & more into window space? But, if DH loves where it is & it works best in that spot - well, it’s his room that he lives in too!

You are lucky to have such a spacious bedroom area.

It gives off a lofty airy vibe.

I too agree with many of the other respondents that a single paint color may calm the angles and add visual harmony to the space.

Speaking of misspelling ,have you noticed how often people on this web write"paining" when they mean "painting" ?

Some kind of Freudian slip, almost as funny as the "dinning" room.

Has anyone mentioned painting out just the 4 pointy beige spikes... paint the side walls of the dormer niches the same white as the ceiling to match it? No more four pointy beige angles overhead.

The niches act as lightwell of sorts, in the manner a skylight would. Very nice.

    Here is a quick sketch.

I like your bed wall decor. Get bedside lamps to reflect in the mirrors. The decor does not look symmetrical to the headboard, measure evenly centered to the headboard.

Adding my vote for paint. I would do the same color throughout, but just doing the angles as merit (depends on how much you hate painting).

I want to add that your desk and vanity nooks are delightful!

First this is not a spelling class and in a hurry I often forget to check mine but usually pretty easy to figure out . I agree all one color and maybe a bit lighter too . Some nice sized lamps and remove the mirrors they do nothing for the space . How about a bit more interesting bedding and then choose a new color from that. As for the chair from the pics I do not see any other place for it , sometimes you just win some lose some in the couple design choices at least he does not want a gaming set up in there

Thank you ALL! The visuals are especially helpful, wonder if anyone has time to edit out my wall items and play around with suggestions for asymmetrical gallery style or just more appropriate art. maybe lamps and plants choices too ?
    thanks in advance!

Doesn't something need to be symmetrical somewhere? I like the symmetry of decor to the headboard. Move the recliner to the other side with the lower overhead.

Here is a quick sketch of my concept using your pieces, which I like.

I want reading lamps on the nightstands. Can match or not.

Hi Wanda! Looks like you are on your way to a paint job, have lots of fun! Lol!

Traditionally, the headboard would be centered in front of the window, but your arrangment DOES give you more light. Agree with the contributor above who suggested centering the bed and the chair then goes to live in the inner corner (need a great reading lamp and basket there! Shopping! ❤️)

Finding the right symmetry first? It’s magic lol! All else becomes clear!

A few more ideas below before the paint festivus begins!

•Picture gallery in place of the Tuscan painting, between the mirrors — echo the line of the ceiling slope? Curated: round, brass, gilt, frames the coordinate w mirrors’ detail. Here you DO go asymmetrical

    OR

    •Floating shelf in bed finish

    OR

•True attic charm? Half-height-wall bead board (you may keep the white ceilings, truly, I would, and add a full length wall shelf. Yep, i disagree about a paint job, you lose the attic-feel charm — but only as a personal preference — either way is fine!)

    • Prop the Tuscan (?) no glasses lol, peering! landscape on bureau!

    •Hanging light fixture

•matching stools/ottomans/slipper chairs and lamps at the dormer windows!

•Small area rug under the leather chair in corner to create reading nook feel, perhaps consider a bamboo or rattan style mat

    ❤️ An attic bedroom!

Whatever you do, the furnishings you chose are lovely, you cannot go far wrong! Have fun!

Again, thanks for the helpful suggestions. We shifted the bed and decor and moved the chair, of course painting will take a little while longer for us but we made great strides in about 1 hour of work and no money spent. I had this colourful quilt stored and I’m reminded how much I like it for fall and winter thanks again to everyone who commented!

WOW very nice, do you love it? I do. The colors in your fabrics tie everything together beautifully. Different shades of beige with pick and green is lovely.
