Absolutely, your idea could work well and create a beautiful flow between floors. Continuing the dark hardwood on the stairs will provide a nice transition from the main level to the upstairs. Using a white riser (backing) with dark treads adds a stylish, contrasting look that will prevent the stairs from looking too dark or heavy.

Once you transition to a light, natural-colored LVP upstairs, it will create a soft, open feel, perfect for an upper level. This approach is also practical, as the darker stairs will help disguise foot traffic marks, while the lighter floor upstairs keeps things bright and airy. Just ensure the tones of the light LVP and the dark wood complement each other, and it should look cohesive!
