I can see the thought of the dust ledge and that is something to consider.

I thought it was a cool idea for those tops that don't miter well or the pattern is hard to match.

I found one that was similar but not as nice as the picture I'm looking for.

@Debbi Washburn - is this the island that you are referring to? This is the one I thought of when I read your post:

It doesn't have wood showing through (although, I initially thought it was wood) - it's actually a brass inlay.

Sorry for adding so many photos if it's the wrong one! Although, it might provide inspiration for what you'd like to do.

"I can see the thought of the dust ledge and that is something to consider." I was a bit worried about that with my shaker style cabinets (I didn't want a bevel.) I use a very soft paint brush to clean the rails on the doors and drawers, and also the gaps between and below side panels (as below.) Fast and easy :)

It all depends on you/your client, but I don't find it to be any trouble and I think the only alternative might be all slab fronts?

I would like to see your space since IMO waterfall islands really only work in very contemporary kitchens ideally with nothing in the island

@Patricia Colwell Consulting there is a sink in the island. I am not super fond of the waterfall but the designer the customer is working with has them wanting it. In this plan, I do not mind it. The house is being redone with very modern shed roof lines so it will fit the design of the home.

Here are a couple of perspectives

The left wall is all windows looking onto a lake.

The client was told by the granite fabricator that the waterfall on the island will chip on the miter - they are doing taj mahal.

@Debbi Washburn - so glad that was the right island!! I immediately thought of that island - but then I couldn't find the post - until I finally remembered that it was in a post about Neolith countertops!

I thought the way the waterfall was handled was a great idea - and I asked him (can't remember the user name right now) how it was constructed. That's when he sent me a couple other photos - including the close up one showing the brass inlay. Seems like a great idea to avoid the issues many fabricators have with waterfall edges - plus, it just looks cool!

Looks like the kitchen is going to be amazing! I assume rift sawn white oak cabinets - is real marble being installed behind the cooktop? What type of granite is being used on the island?

They are doing Taj Mahal top and splash - I forgot to update the picture.

I am intrigued by this disconnected waterfall look.
