Color for half bath?

last year

Hello Houzzers,

we are building a house and the half bath will have the vanity shown (ignore the hand and samples) with satin nickel knobs. We would love to do a bright color on one or all walls. Our builder has not budgeted for wallpaper, so that is not an option. My husband would like something with res in it but I cannot imagine any red tones that would go well. Suggestions?

Thank you!

Consider painting neutral in a subtle soft color and bring in some lively art that has red in it.

Let the builder paint it a neutral color and then you pick out and pay for having the wallpaper hung after you move in.

Choose whatever the bulilder will proviide and take your time after you move in. I assume when you say 1/2 bath this is apowder room and I usually have a bit of fun doing those .

Red hand towels, red rug, red soap container, I’d use burgundy, a deeper red.

Burgundy is very military with indigo--with your cabinetry not so much. Do you really want a red white and blue room--IDC which it is. Seems a bit too themey....

arcy_gw: To say the truth, red had not even occurred to me as a possibility, till my husband said he wanted something bright like red- I thought I am taking almost all the decisions about this house, so I figured I could see if I can give my husband something- LOL.

My idea was to put a light neutral color and figure something bright from there!

Bring the red in with art. I have some wonder posters in my powder room from a local arts festival with bright colors in them. Choose one with SOME red. A little color like bright red, or yellow, or green, goes a long way. Use that color in a woven rug, or hand towels (against white towels). It will be enough. Trust me!

You can find a lot of red, white and blue wallpapers. Here are a few ideas that might be a compromise.

A strong wallpaper if you can agree on one.

Red towels can be a compromise, plus a red soap dish, rug and toothbrush holder.

I would go for warm white walls and bring the red colour in accents.

It's difficult to make any other suggestions without having more information such as the size of the room and location or the vanity in the room and the material and colour for the flooring,

Thank you! We will go with the neutral paint. the room is a long half bath: it is actualky 3*8, with the door in the middle of the one long wall, the vanity on one short wall and the toilet and a window on the other.

My brother had a Chicago Cubs themes powder room in his last house. It was very fun - neutral overall with pops of blue/white pinstripes and some red.

Blue on blue to create drama! you can add any color as a accent, with towels, rug, wall art.

What you want to do is create a feeling of harmony as you walk through your home and go from one room into the next. . .

The bedroom and bathrooms below don't work with the living room . . .

But they are in harmony with this living room

and this dining room and bedroom are in harmony with this living room . . .

Without knowing anything about the rest of your home we can suggest all kinds of color combinations that may look great in your bathroom, but how will it harmonize with the rest of the house?

If you're willing to do wallpaper after the builder is gone, I'll bet you could find an elegant red-on-white pattern for one wall that would be amazing!
