best paint for repainting kitchen cabinets

Is there a specific paint or method that allowa a home owner to get their cainets repainted and it last like the original factory paint?

You can hire a professional cabinet painter with a good reputation, and that gets you close to factory finish. You would have to have all cabinets removed, from your home for that process. If you are talking diy, no, you can repaint, yourself, using proper prep, and correct products, but, it wont be like the original factory paint.

My cabinets were just painted with BM Advance. They spray painted the doors and rolled the boxes. Removing was not an option since job was being dictated by the insurance company. I am pleased with the outcome.

Yes to BM Advance. We kept our original cabinet boxes and layout, but replaced cabinet doors (with full overlay) and drawer fronts, and did our own painting - properly. Sand, prime, sand, 1st coat, sand, final coat. It is time-consuming, but needs to be done right. If DIY, search some of the previous advice posts here on Houzz for info and tips. Our door and drawer fronts spray painted, existing boxes rolled. The paint has held up very well - 8 yrs now, although have had to touch up the top and top edge of the pull out trash bin. But even factory painted trash cabinets will likely need that eventually!

Even the best paint in the world is only as good as the prep work. Spend the time on prep and most quality paints will last. No paint applied now will ever be as durable as a factory finished painted surface however.

A cabinet finisher can spray 2K water based materials in your home that are the equivalent of the factory finish. That's different than a painter. But, the days and days of prep that come before that are the most important part. Even a decent homeowner grade coating like Advance will hold up well with good prep, and allowing it the 30 days to cure.

I've really enjoyed using Target Coatings EM 6500 water based tintable "lacquer" for cabinets. Adding the available crosslinker makes the finish really tough and it is a pleasure to spray. Their color matching has been excellent.

Great prep work is paramount as others have stated. Don't underestimate how much work this is, there's a good reason competent pros charge so much.
