Previous owners used a paint wash, so that it still looks like brick. I would scrub it really well, with a brush,and see if you can remove some of the paint wash, and then repaint it with another paint wash, leaving some brick color showing through. A paint wash looks so much nicer on a fireplace, than a solid paint, that looks a little like its plastic or artificial. Another option is to leave it like it is, since it blends into your room nicely, and just use some interesting decor on the mantle and preferably move that tv down from there, and have a nice piece of art above it. The tv doesnt look good there. Its way to big a tv for the spot and downgrades the fireplace look.

Until you move the TV elsewhere, don't even think about what to do with the fireplace.

Welp agreed with gen we put it up I told my husband it looked crazy up there but let him go with it. Our living room is kind of oddly shaped, we were going to put the tv on the big wall but then the couch would back to the windows which we didn’t want

If you are going to leave the t v where it is, paint the brick, mantel, trim and the wall on that side of the room black. Hopefully, it will make the t v blend in and disappear.

Honestly? The t v is huge, no matter where you put it.
