Do arms have to match?

I am looking to buy a new sofa and I am just wondering would the rolled arms on my side chairs would work with the square sofa arms ?

It is about scale and shape of the arm. A slender, square arm would look fine. A super chunky square arm you posted would not. The first sofa you posted, the arms look as wide as your chairs! That sofa would not make sense to me with the scale of your chairs.

I know your current sofa is not comfortable, but it looks great with your chairs and the rest of your room.

Just look at arm stlye not colour … I have not considered colour yet… here is a ohoti of tge chairs I currently have

I think they would look nice together. But can you post a photo of your chairs too, preferably in their living room setting. And any additional room photos would be a help.

The sofas you show look very modern, while the chairs are more traditional, so I probably wouldn't use that combination in the room. Also, I wouldn't have that much leather in one room either. All that being said, it's the whole composition that needs to be considered, not just one or two items. We can't really get a good idea of the style of the room from that one little photo.

Wow … I wouldnt take any of your advice… you are very critical … if you dont like it scroll on… I have nothing but positive feed back about my space and then there is you. Talk about a PITA!

The square arms sofa and round arm chairs don't look bad together. IMO chairs and sofas don't have to match exactly but they should coordinate in some fashion.

Shapes are often mixed, but proportions and styles have to suit (second would work).

While first does not/needs a heavier more modern chair.

A sofa with narrow arms and a slight curve and not too high would look great. The ones with chunky square arms are space hogs and difficult to get in and out of, especially if the top of the arms come up to you armpits (which may help with tricep strength).

I agree, a square arm is fine with your chairs, but the two styles you posted with the extra wide/chunky square arm don't feel like they would suit the chairs as far as style and scale. Your current sofa is beautiful, but I saw someone mentioned it wasn't comfortable for you. Are you looking for something you can kick you feet up (I noticed you posted motion options) or just something with a deeper, more comfy seat you can curl up in?
