$50 for a rose bush

last year

I guess I'm getting too old because I remember when they were $17 in the old Pickering catalogs. Rose prices have definitely skyrocketed! Crazy!

Keep an eye on the big box home improvement stores' mail order listings. Sometimes a listing pops up that is pretty reasonable. The rose selling season with them online is already underway to accommodate you warm climate gardeners. What you would get from them now would be dormant, that's either their potted offerings or bare root ones.

Amazon has saved the day for me many times.

Bellarose, Pickering is well remembered for its variety of roses all on multiflora rootstocks. Their prices were fair, too. Pickering is sorely missed.

Yes rose prices are shocking these days . I started out paying $20 in 2016 . I like to shop around , Lowes & Home Depot have lots of new roses potted up own root or on Dr.Huey early Spring .

Moses and Pink Rose, thanks for the advice. I never thought of ordering roses from Amazon! I do agree that the big box stores have stepped up their game when it comes to roses with a bigger selection. Best time to grab them is early Spring when they start stocking them on the shelves. I bought a pretty rose called Purple Prince, I think that's the name. Beautiful blooms.

Actually even Heirloom Roses sell on Amazon ,but they are over $50 of course .

Free bit of advice re ordering Heirloom Roses -- order direct from them. The warranty is better direct from Heirloom vs. ordering on Amazon. Also, last year you could order a 3-rose bundle from Heirloom on Costco! Not sure if they'll do that again. My local ACE hardware has a lot of good roses (in the body bags or whatever) during bare root season.

I miss the $17 bands from Heirloom before it changed hands. They were small but I am perfectly ok with bands. I would treat myself every month or so with 3 or 4. The new site does send nice roses. I have to find a sale or it has to be something that I really "need" to make myself pay that much.

I wish A Reverence for Roses had more roses in stock because they are very reasonable in my area.

There are some others in FL that are very reasonable but the shipping is high even when shipping within the same state. I dont ever have time to make all day trips unless I have other things in the area I need to do.

Our local stores have nothing impressive as far as roses. Knockouts full of black spot rule the big box stores here. Most of the body bags & coffin roses are old stuff. Every once in a while I find something good.

I haven't had good luck ordering any plants from Amazon. I have some luck eith etsy and more luck with ebay. I'm not usually ordering roses though. You really need to dig through and scrutinize the reviews when ordering from these places.
