It’s hard to believe it has been 44 years.

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us, only sky

Imagine all the people

Livin' for today

Ah

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion, too

Imagine all the people

Livin' life in peace

You

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

Lyrics : John W Lennon

How can it be 44 years? I well remember being in the kitchen that night while DH was watching Monday night football in another room. I heard Howard Cosell reporting what happened and rushed in to hear more. When he said ”Dead on arrival” it was one of those frozen in time surreal moments.

It was a very sad day that I'll never forget. He has been dead longer than he was alive. Think of the wonderful music he would have produced. And some loser piece of scum took that all away from us.

I remember that morning when the radio came on with the news...so heart breaking. Can't believe it was 44 years ago.

I would love to see the John Lennon Peace Memorial. It is on Viðey Island in Reykjavik. It only burns from October 9 (his birthday) to December 8 (his date of death).

I was in college at the time. I can remember the room I was sitting in when we heard. One of the frozen in time moments.

I can believe it was that long ago. I remember when I heard the news. I was living a whole different life in a whole other place.

They say that Yoko can look out her window at The Dakota and see the Strawberry Fields memorial. There's an excellent Beatles tribute band called The Meetles that plays free concerts around the city, including there. You can google them and see a lot of fun videos.

I've been to the Strawberry Fields memorial where a guy with his guitar was singing Imagine and other Beatles songs. It was very touching.

I had graduated high school that year. I remember we went to Windows on the World atop one the towers… I forget.

    Everything was great…

When I heard this horrifying news, I was already devasted. My father was dying of cancer. I didn’t remember it was just a few short months. I need to refresh my memory with my sister.

I remember Bob Marley died as well shortly after.

Floral… he was flawed alright. He was human. I like Imagine. I wasn’t a big beatles fan, but the older I get, the more I wish the words to this song were true.

John Lennon's death remains a “frozen in time” moment, vividly etched in memory. Even 44 years later, its emotional impact lingers.

Thank you, floral, for giving us that link to see many of his complications.

    Quite a guy!

ETA: Somewhat unfortunate that the major mythologizing of him largely outshone that of his equally deserving bandmates.

He might have been flawed as we all are but his magical music will endure. I love Imagine... simple and poignant.
