Flooring Decisions

Do floors and stairs need to match? I am having a home built. For my downstairs area I chose sand dune by Mohawk. My builder however did not have that as a an option for the stairs so I chose Ebony for the stairs. I slept on that decision and now I'm not feeling confident. Is it odd to have light floors with dark colored stairs?

I need to see the choices and for sure some clue as to your style . I usually prefer the stairs to match the flooring on the main floor and not sure what you could not have a stsine done on the stairs to match . IMO ebony is quite a staement in my mind so needs to work with all the other elements in the home . Show us the 2 together in a pic here so we are not guessing . Post the pic here in a commment DO NOT start another post I see this is laminate you are working with so I assume the stairs are actual wood so please a bit more info.

What stairway options does the builder offer that you would consider for both main floor and stairway?

Have you ordered a full box of this to make CERTAIN YOU LOVE IT?

WHAT is the kitchen cabinetry? No to ebony with this.

So the home is a new build. They haven't started building yet so I don't have pictures. Here are some pictures of the model. One is the foyer that leads to the stairs just to give you a visual. And I am also attaching a pic from the design center of the light floors with the Ebony sample. Let me know if that helps ....

The kitchen cabinets will be white with gold hardware and the island will be gray.

We originally wanted stairs and flooring to match. But when we switched to a harder flooring material, our designer noted that most clients did not choose matching materials.

    Our walnut stairs in production.

    Flooring in red oak.

But ebony is quite a statement.

@worthy those walnut stair treads are beautiful. I'd almost hate to step on them. (Shoes off everybody!)

    Indeed!

We asked the stair builder for "character" walnut to match the "industrial lite" vibe. But before we knew it, he proudly showed us the flawless walnut he had immediately ordered and paid for with our deposit! If we had only known Azerbaijani!

My tile guy was Ukrainian and spoke little English. I speak 2 other languages, but nothing from eastern Europe! We communicated by laying tile out in different layout options and pointing to the one I wanted. My 2 other languages came in very handy for most of the other trades!

I've never had wood stairs that were completely different from the wood in the rest of the house. I prefer one continuous material.

The only way to match a white oak lvp? Get white oak treads and match a stain.

No need to be neurotic, you need a runner on the stair , inn any case. Much safer, especially in SOCKS!!

Material for stairs should be the same as floors, matching in color and finish. Walnut for stairs is not a good choice - soft.
