Face glops........

last year
last modified: last year

My facial routine is not very sophisticated. I use Ivory soap and Noxzema cream. A few days ago I received a misdelivery from Amazon with various face glops in it. Amazon told me to either keep it or dispose of it.

I looked each of them up on Amazon and tried one, the Anua heartleaf cleansing oil, which has mixed reviews and also apparently a following on Tiktok (which to me is not a reason to do or try anything) and it made my face feel nice. Some reviews said that continued use broke them out so IDK if I will continue.

I am listing the glops here in case any of you have tried any of them and would like to offer an opinion.

Anua heartleaf cleansing oil

Comprehensive linical formula toning solution glycolic acid 7%

The Ordinary

Rice Toner

Johnson's shea and cocoa butter oil gel

BRMUD Relief Mud Mask (positive reviews by CardiB who shared it on TikTok, also advertising says you can use it on your dog)

Don't you love it when Amazon lets you keep the misdelivery. haha I once received "boob" tape. I had no clue what it was, there were no instructions. I called my 30 something old niece and asked her if she or one of the friends would like the tape. She was thrilled, she told me you use it when you don't wear a bra or to keep your dress stuck to you so you don't reveal too much. She and her husband attend many affairs and she wears gowns and pretty dresses so she said she would be happy to have it.

In the 30s I did all the skin product thing, toners, lotions, concealers, masks, etc but when I was in my 40s I stopped with the skin routine and just wash my face with a cloth and hot water, I have some rosacea so I use a line of thermal skin care products from Avene when I feel the need to use it which is less often than not. I have sensitive skin so am careful what I put on my face. I had nice skin, no wrinkles until I lost weight. I should probably take more care of my skin, my Mom used to put Vaseline on my face when I was a kid and I think it did the same as some of the high end pricey products. Enjoy your free gifts

Good lord, one person ordered all that glop? Hope does spring eternal.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It's job is to keep foreign elements OUT of the body. For most of your life all it needs is help maintaining that barrier. You can clean it, protect it from the sun and dryness, and nourish it from within with lots of water and a healthy diet.

Wait until you are old. It's not just your face! I've wondered why I saw janitors constantly dry-mopping floors in nursing homes. Now I am constantly vacuuming skin flakes in our house -- and applying Gold Bond Diabetics' Dry Skin Relief all over my body. I'm not diabetic, but this is better than any other brand I've tried for extra dry skin, and it isn't greasy. I also need to use soap on my face to keep micro-organisms off my lashes and out of my eyes. My natural defenses are compromised.

One of the PAs at our derm's office had suggested The Ordinary niacinamide 10% serum (" a water-based formula that delivers multiple niacinamide benefits to enhance skin brightness, improve texture, and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier " as it reads) to DH who had never put anything but a little moisturizer on his skin in cold windy weather. Clear, and under $10, he hasn't complained about using it. Small bottle lasts forever, like about 6 months so maybe he's not using it daily - I don't nag about his skin routine. He just looks like my lovely DH of decades to me 😁 and very low maintenance.

Have fun with your products if you choose to try them!

The Ordinary is a line rather than a particular product. Their Argireline Solution 10% is nicknamed 'Botox in a bottle.' Needless to say it was sold out when I looked recently, having been hyped on Tik Tok. I was prepared to try it given the sub £10 price.

I usually use soap and water and Nivea moisturizing cream.

I did not realize The Ordinary was a line, I am not familiar with glops. Below that in small print it says hyaluronic acid 2%+B5, a hydration support formula. One is supposed to use a few drops to the face applied after cleansing morning and evening.

I wonder if these glops react with one another. And if there is some order in which they should be used. It seems to me that cleansers should be used first, and, just guessing, mud packs used prior to cleansers occasionally, but after that I am at a loss.

For Christmas, I purchased my SO several colognes. ONE BOTTLE of a cologne he uses cost $1000. Ridiculous, I know. But, in addition to $200 cash back because i used Rakuten, it came with tons of samples (I will not call them FREE samples because well the friggin cologne cost a thousand bucks). Most of the samples are face glops of various types. Serums, moisturizers, eye cream, exfoliant, masks, those under eye gel mask things, all sorts of stuff. I keep meaning to go through it to try to find something exciting, but I haven't yet. I sometimes wonder if all that stuff really does anything. To be frank, religiously using sunscreen daily can prevent a lot of the stuff that glops are used to fight, IMO. I do not practice what I preach though, as I hate the feel of sunscreen and as a Night Minion, do not get much sun anyway.

I have a set of clay masks that I got from Amazon. I use them a couple times a week. I like how they make my skin feel. I have perpetual under eye bags and wish I could find something to help with that.

The idea of a skin care "routine" always perplexes me. The skin care aisle just has so many products. Some for day, some for night. What order do you put them on? WHO KNOWS? I do not wear makeup, does that make a difference? WHO KNOWS?

I usually just wash my face with Olay face wash, and then moisturize with Olay products, day and night, whichever the little tub is marked for. I really do not know if they do any good, other then they do moisturize, I have dry face skin otherwise.

I understand there is some kind of scam involving unordered Amazon merchandise, and I wonder if that's what happened to you, but apparently you are ok. That's good. Enjoy the products.

My daily moisturizer is factor 30. Feels much better than sunscreen.

I've started making my own. It is sooooo dry here in the winter. I melt coconut oil and castor oil together and throw in some frankincense. I think I will call it Glop.

I am trying to understand how one uses the BRMUD Relief mud mask on a dog. See my icon for the kind of hair my dog has….single coated papillon with long, silky WHITE hair. Mud mask? Really?

I’m trying to imagine myself explaining the benefits of a mud mask to my muddy mutt 🤔🐾🐶

Two different products, both a mud dog shampoo, and the claim that the mud mask for people helps dogs with itching skin. KW your dog is lovely. I don't think it would be of benefit to glop mud on a beautiful papillon.

I am actually experimenting with a few of the glops. When I first received the box it was overwhelming, there was a boxful of glops I was completely unfamiliar with (plus an additional item that probably shouldn't be mentioned, but brings to mind that however discreet a shipper may be, there are always the possibility of mishaps). The glops may or may not be of benefit but it is fun to experiment.

I am just happy to find a fellow Noxzema gal! I have tried mightily to find something that cleans my face without drying but would be far more expensive and much more difficult to source, but I have failed to do so. So I "have" to keep using Noxzema.

In general, the way to use multiple products is from lightest to heaviest, think water to Vaseline.

Mtn and Lucille, have you ever tried Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser? Readily available at most drugstores and in 55 gallon drums at Costco 😆

I think only the hyaluronic acid has validity. The retinol strips cells, making the next layer visible. Of course that looks 'fresh', and that rosy glow'is *irritation* -- because you've stripped a layer before its time. Next they'll sell it as 'weight loss'.

I like my Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.

chisue, your ”weight loss” funny reminds me first of Totie Fields’ list of things to do before getting on the scale, and also this from a few years ago:

(PS, I have to occasionally use a topical Rx on my scalp. The only, and I mean the only, product that washes it out is Dawn. Maybe if I use both more often, all my problems will be solved.)

No more new products for me for a while. One of the experimental glops has made me break out horribly, I feel like my skin is 16 again and not in a good way. I was perfectly happy before the glops, I guess there's a lesson in here somewhere: the grass is not always greener, and the skin is not always smoother, on the other side of the fence.

BBSTX, I have in the past used Cetaphil and it is a good product. But what I was using was doing ok.
