Sansevieria House Plants Garden

Mushy spot on snake plant leaf

Hi plant lovers, I have a puzzling spot developing on my whale fin snake plant and was hoping for some troubleshooting help. I'm not used to seeing a mushy spot like this in the middle of a leaf, rather than on the sides. The plant sits in very chunky succulent soil and I only water when the soil is dry (I might be underwatering it but definitely not overwatering). It's about 7 feet from a southwest facing window. It was only potted up around September and has been doing great until now, and even has a new leaf growing so I'm confused what's going on. I've been using Miracle Grow's succulent fertilizer at every watering. Any ideas what might be happening? Has someone seen this before?

This is a pretty common problem on Sansevierias. Often it is found to be from a fungus: Drechslera ersipila.

Not exactly causative, but insufficient light makes it more likely.

I don’t know of any effective treatment available to a home gardener.

Thank you! I got the same feedback on another forum. Appreciate your insight. I will (sadly) remove the affected leaf and give it more light.
