I found my battery powered reciprocating saw to be both too heavy and ponderous for close pruning...but this mini chainsaw has been a revelation...especially with the Stihl chainsaw sharpening jig.

You don't want a sawzall for pruning -- those are for rough-cut jobs like hacking things down or cutting through roots.

A chainsaw is what you need. DH bought a couple cordless chainsaws last year, darn I can't remember the brand right now and it's dark out in the barn for me to go looking. He bought a couple different sizes. He surprised himself by liking the mini one as much as he does, the 8" size.

And, don't forget proper pruning methods (no matter what type of saw is used).
