help finishing primary bedroom

last year

Looking for help with primary. I want to paint or wallpaper, add art above bed and two sconces instead of table lamps, and need to figure out how to lay new rugs given it’s such a long room with two areas (bed and then the sitting area). Also need suggestions on coffee table please. Thank you !!

Nice room, but -- yes -- the wall behind the bed is screaming out for something. With so much solid in the room, I'd like to see wallpaper (or a mural) behind the bed. Something large and bold -- I'm thinking red with giant non-symetrical flowers, but you might find red too strong. Those tall ceilings demand something on that wall. Choose this first, as it will "make" the room -- let the other decisions follow this big one.

As for rugs, I think ideally you'd have a large rug that'd go under the bed /protrude at the foot ... AND ALSO something -- like a super-soft sheepskin -- on each spouse's side.

    Other smaller thoughts:

    - I'm not loving the lampshades. The stark white seems wrong with the black lamps.

    - The bed linens are underwhelming. Perhaps a more lux comforter + some pillows with pattern? Maybe in a color instead of gray?

    - Do you use the two chairs? They're not doing anything for the room. The bed should always be the star, and these chairs are taking away from it. If you keep them, could they be placed more towards the window /not dead ahead of the bed? And if you keep them, definitely add a pillow or some throws to reflect the color you use on the wall -- you know, to tie them together.

    - If you keep the two chairs, the little table needs something -- a small lamp? Being bare seems wrong.

Love the big window and the built-ins. The room has great potential.

Curious, would the bed fit the other direction, so that you could look out the windows? Might be more dramatic for morning coffee. Otherwise would definitely do a large piece of artwork over the bed. Or else something textual on the walls (grass cloth?). Agree with changing the lamps, they are too small for the scale of the room. A large rug to anchor the bed and separate from the other space.

For the seating area, the chairs either need ottomans or there should be a comfy place for your feet to go up. A couch might allow more snuggles which seems more appropriate for a bedroom. Again a better rug to anchor. Maybe side tables for each (small) for a glass of wine?
