We are in the process of giving my family room/kitchen a facelift. Fresh paint, new furniture, new backsplash, cabinet hardware and adding lights (over the island and kitchen table). The aesthetic is brighter and clean but I’m stuck on what kind of lights to put over the island. The room is long and open with our TV at the far end - I am not sure I want anything too obstructive as I like watching it as I cook. I’m including a couple of computer renderings from the furniture store - one has a suggested pendant which I like- just trying to explore other options and it’s overwhelming! Thanks in advance!

I have a similar set-up. I just bought great lamps for the sitting area and left the recessed lights over my island. I probably looked at 80-100 pendants and then realized they all looked too “obstructive”. I like the openness of not having pendants.

First time doing this so my apologies but adding a couple comments: the color is a bit washed out here but the rug has definite bluish green tones as does the swivel chair. The art piece will be different also - see photo

Can you please add actual photos of your real space, not the rendering. These renderings are totally unrealistic. They have lighted areas with no lighting fixtures. We need to see what you are actually dealing with here.

There is nothing wrong at all with not having pendents at the island. You need some sort of lighting there but it need not be a pendent that hangs down and blocks your view.

You could have recessed lighting.

You could have suspended linear lighting that does not hang down low and still allows and open view.

Side note - we had a sectional before but when our dog if 13 yrs passed we got rid of it - it was very USED. 😂. These pieces were temporary

Nice space! glad the rendering show lamps, that will make the living room so much nicer at night - do you often have the TV on when working in the kitchen? if so, I might skip pendants for now and leave the view unobstucted

Your TV is gigantic! It is the power force of this room. I agree with no pendents. Clear view to the focal point makes so much sense.

Wow, that is the Island Of Power with the dual ovens! Very cool.

No pendants, even if they don’t block your view of the TV they will just be more glare and clutter you have to look through.

I would love to see an airy (non view blocking type) chandelier in either the middle of the LR or over the peninsula. I'm thinking something that hangs down max 20" so you can still see under it fine, but it adds a lot to the space decor-wise and I wouldn't like to miss that opportunity!
