I would wait until you can do the kitchen all at once. Updating piecemeal is never a good idea…especially as youre only talking about one year for the floors. Were you planning on changing the countertops? Backsplash?

No on the two-tone. neither grey nor black will look good in my opinion.

What would you suggest

What will the floor change to next year? Are you extending the mid-tone hardwood floors from the other adjacent space we see in the photo for one cohesive flooring? Flooring color/tone comes in to play when deciding on the other surfaces like cabinetry.

No gray for sure and I wouldn't choose black with orange counters either. I don't see how black relates to anything else in the other spaces and you'd have to create a new layered lighting plan to keep the black from looking like a tunnel in that long space.

If you're committed to keeping the orange counters, then a warm white similar to what's there, but with no crevice glazing of course would keep the kitchen brighter. I know those intricate raised panel cabinets will cost a lot to paint professionally off-site. Honestly, if that was my kitchen, I'd skip the pricey painting and just save up for a total reno later with a more transitional style of Shaker cabinets (warm white), soapstone counters and continue the same wood flooring from the living space.

Designers usually suggest living in a space for 6 months to a year to get a feel for the home and particularly the kitchen. Make sure you love the layout before spending thousands for a proper paint job

Why would you want black and gray cabinets in that space ? You have avery traditional style kitchen and honestly not ideal at all . Having cabinets painted is a lot of $$$$$ and IMO the cabinets are dated the design is awkward , you need new and better lighting , new flooring and IMO a new kitchen . IMO you rip out the kitchen do the floors and then design a proper kitchen not do the floors and leave what you have . Id agree to live there and work in thta space for at least 6 months to see it if functions perfectly as it is . For me no way but I am not you.

Good advice already - the kitchen will look totally different with wood floors that flow from the adjoining room, but agree that you should be confident on the layout before changing floors

This will be our summer home so I’m trying to be creative with breaking the bank. I really appreciate all the advice. Decorating is not my thing. Now if you want to play golf. I’m your girl. Thanks again

You should always start from the bottom up, so start with the floors if you do anything.

But that being said, I wouldn't do a thing until you live in it for a while. Especially if it's a summer home, you probably won't spend all your time there, and not much time in the kitchen cooking if you're a golfer!

What is your overall budget? Please no black and grey!

Since counters are not being replaced, they should drive many decisions, now or in the future. It’s not an easy or inexpensive project to paint cabinets and by waiting, you’ll have a better feel for the space. Flooring should also come before cabinet decision, as it has to connect to adjoining spaces. Paint is a much easier decision and due to the layout, don’t suggest two colors.

At this point, maybe consider painting the walls, adding a ceiling fixture in kitchen, coordinated with dining room, perhaps new hardware and even a runner and you may be quite surprised.
