Silk pillowcase recommendations

last year

I'm ready to try a silk pillowcase and wonder if any of you have any recommendations? Or, don't bother, they don't work.

My hair can really go south from sleeping on it. I have crisp percale sheets and I think they cause more drag on my hair.

I don't even care what it looks like, the pillowcase that is. Only my cat and I visit my bedroom (alas).

I ordered these when my hair was falling out a couple years ago. My hairdresser recommended using silk to preserve the hairi had. Thank goodness it has mostly grown back in.

I've had one since middle school. I like the way the feel. I have super straight hair, curl it daily. No the pillowcase does not help preserve the curl.

Thanks for your feedback. Any particular brand(s) you prefer?

My hair is overall bendy/straight with some wave here and there. It's not uniform all over. I can get some frizz in the back of my crown, no idea what that's about. Sometimes I can get extreme bedhead. Perhaps one of my problems is I'm a back sleeper and that's unlikely to change.

I use a silk case, bought a few on A a couple of years ago, not sure which but I don't think there's a lot of difference. I notice a slight difference in knotting/frizz created from cotton pillow cases. Is it significant? Well I haven't switched back so I guess it's enough. My issue with bedhead and messed up styling seems to come from a condition I call hot head. Between the heat my head produces during sleep and the heat held in my pillow it acts like a styling tool on my hair - and not in a good or controllable way.

DH has bought me a couple Blissy for Christmas gifts. I like them. I even pack one for travel. He uses the Blissy eye masks for sleeping.

Especially good for when I get a blow out style in that it helps preserve the curl/waves.

Over the years, I’ve bought a few silk pillowcases from the Big A, mulberry silk made my Ravmix (according to my order history). I do think they help my hair be a little less bedheady. And I’d like to believe they're a little kinder to my old lady skin, but I have no real proof of that.

I put mine in a zippered lingerie bag and wash in the washer but air dry.

I would definitely say its worth trying one, they weren’t expensive.

    I bought this in 2019.

Went the inexpensive route. Have only used it a few times. The "momme" weight is how heavy the silk fabric is and I think I'd rather have one that is higher/heavier. That means more $, but I'd do it next time.

I bought a mid-priced one from A. It has to be white. Thanks again for your input. I'll report back with my findings.

I have a Slip brand one, and one from Quince. I think the Slip one is much nicer.

I had a Slip brand one and have no clue what happened to it. I was thinking about trying the Quince version so I'm glad to have your comparison review Sue.

I think my thinning, frizzy hair would benefit from acquiring a new silk case. Looking forward to hearing your review, Bunny..

texanjana, in what way(s) is the Blissy far superior? How the pillowcase looks, feels, holds up? How your hair responds? I'm fine with paying more for a better product.

i ordered the Brooklinen Mulberry silk pillowcase and it is far superior to the other brand i had previously (don’t remember the brand but it may have been Blissy). The reason i love it is the size and the fact it is an envelope style case. I have an oversized king pillow that is customizable with the fill. Mine is long enough and my thick-ish pillow slips nicely into it.

I always wash it on gentle and maybe dry it on very low for about 10 minutes to de-wrinkle and hang it to finish drying. Doesn’t take long.

I ordered the one in Blush, king size. I tried to link the A-zon page but could not. Just search on Brooklinen Mulberry Silk pillowcase.

I tried one, the Mulberry from A. Didn’t anyone have an issue with your nighttime face cream sticking , lightly, but unpleasantly, onto the silk fabric?

FWIW, after not seeing much in the way of results, I've been considering getting a bonnet for sleeping...

Mine are Blissy and I have a few. I've bought them for gifts too, I only hope the recipients have been as happy with them as I am. I wash in a lingerie bag and air dry. Those that were getting a little rougher treatment early on were showing some failure of the seams at the zipper end.

I've always had quite a bit of hair but fine in texture. I do use a couple of styling products on it and I am a 'nester' ( as well as back sleeper)with lots of pillows. It probably doesn't help that i sleep like a little kid either - hard and soundly with only one or two exceptions a year.

I was beginning to resent the daily wash and blow dry that I'd done every day for decades. With the Blissy, I'm good for about every other day. It's liberating, and a time saver. My sister put one in my Christmas stocking one year that was satin, not silk. I don't use a heavy night cream on my skin but the lightweight product I do use stained the satin in one night. Shhhh! I got rid of it immediately.

My pillowcase arrived, wrong color, it’s going back. My new order is Brooklinen. Thanks for the rec, Outside.

Got my Brooklinen pillowcase. It came in the nicest box. Compared to the case I sent back (wrong color, but cheapo), it's clear you get what you pay for. I was a little worried that the Ivory would look funny with my white sheets, but the sheen of the silk makes it look lighter.

I've slept on it a few nights. I don't know that my hair's any different but perhaps smoother than sleeping on percale. There are so many variables, e.g., how I styled my hair to begin with, how much I move around while I sleep, product used, etc. But it's a nice experience and I'm glad I bought it.

Bunny, I’m glad you are happy with the Brooklinen case. I can’t say they make your hair look perfect but my fine thin hair definitely looks better than it does after sleeping on a cotton pillowcaae. A little touch up with a dry shampoo is sometimes all I need.

I hate them!!! I have never slept on one that did not slide out from under my head. I must admit that I do not have problem hair. Maybe that would change my mind?
