I'd put mulch, leaf litter or compost etc on it then put stones or bricks on top of that (leave a little crown exposed) to keep animals from digging..then when it's warmer decide if you need to lift it and replant lower..this is what I did with my heaved Blue Mouse Ears years ago..it recovered..

I don't know if I have any heaved hosta..my ground is soggy and I haven't explored..

Yes I agree. I would cover just the exposed roots. Soil or compost would be better but we do the best with what we have available. Good thing you have mulch on hand.

I’ve had this happen with some of my hostas and have covered with dirt and leaves as suggested. The hostas survived.

I decided to just take the bag of mulch (still in the package) and lay it gently over the plant. Then I carefully patted down around the edges to make sure the bag had ground contact all around. Fingers crossed!
