Help with Libby, PLEASE

This great source for books is stuck. My two books have been on hold in the same position for weeks. When I receive notiice they are ready to download , which I attempt immediatley, I’m too late and placed in beginning of the line. Has anyone experienced this or have an idea how to fix it?

I love Libby and talk it up to lots of folks. Because of that, I really want to try and help. I googled “Libby keeps losing my hold place” and found a couple of things worth trying.

First I would completely close the Libby app and then restart it.

The second is to sync your shelf. Go to your shelf, actions, and select synchronize shelf.

Also, Martinca, if you’re only using Libby on your phone, I’m hoping you have notifications set up so you see right away when a hold is ready.

One more suggestion from google, try using Libby on a different device.

I use Libby daily and have been an Overdrive user from multiple libraries for over a decade so I think I can help.

Libby is a pretty good app but not a great one. It does sometimes get stuck and whether that's the app or the phone to blame, who knows.

I find it easiest to straighten out problems online, using a browser. There are two ways, one being to go the the library's Overdrive site, which you can get to with a search like

    Southern California Digital Overdrive or

    Los Angeles County library Overdrive

You then log in with your library card number and PIN.

You will see links for Books on loan, books on hold, etc. See if you find different information than what the Libby app on your mobile device says.

Another approach is to use the online Libby app, which is at

    www.libbyapp.com

It is a larger format version of what you see on your mobile device. See if what's shown as books out, books on hold, is consistent with what you expected to see or consistent with what's shown when you go directly to your library's Overdrive page.

If there's a disconnect between one of these two sources in a browser and what the app says on your phone, uninstall the app and set it up again.

In any event, I find it very useful to have a text file containing my library card numbers. Using something like Wordpad or a mac equivalent, a simple file I organize this way:

    Santa Clara County Library

    55528548635168

    PIN 12345

    San Jose Public Library

    658452585415

    PIN 87654

I have over 10 accounts in different libraries (to facilitate access to many different Overdrive accounts because availability differs). With such a file, when I want to do something in a browser with the library (whether it's Overdrive, or reserving a real book on the library's site), or whatever, I don't need to torture myself reading the cards and having to type a too long list of digits. Type it once, and then copy/paste for future use.

    Good luck.

I sent you a message, there is one library in one of the smaller towns around that has a surprisingly large Overdrive subscription AND allows online card issuances. I use it pretty regularly.

I don't want to mention it online, lest doing so could bring an end to a good thing.
