Do I go with flat paint or satin?

last year

I'm leaning towards picking Sherwin Williams Pure White to paint the whole house. Do you think I should have the whole house painted in Satin for easy cleaning? Or will it be too shiny, especially for dining, family and living rooms. My painter says, he could paint all the walls in Satin and ceilings in flat. What do you think?

Satin would be my choice. I used flat paint on my entire house and regretted it! Every little scuff showed and could not be cleaned without leaving a worse stain.

Walls, eggshell or matte, unless its a bathroom , then satin or semi gloss. Ceilings in flat. Trim, in satin, or semi gloss or high gloss, your choice. Flat on walls is not washable. Its about like the builder special paints, and nothing you want in your entire house.

I would do eggshell on the walls. In a previous home, I used satin, and well, never again. You will see every stroke, mark etc. Flat paint on walls is another no vote for me.

    Matte on walls.

    Flat on ceiling.

    Semi-gloss on trim, doors, crown.

Here is the reality. If you paint your walls flat and they get dirty, just make sure you use a washable flat from Sherwin Williams, a drop of dawn dishwashing liquid in a cup of water and a microfiber cloth will take off just about all the dirt. Also, if you want to touch up a flat wall with paint with a roller, you will not see the touch up if you paint in satin, however, you will have to paint the whole wall. Because you will see your roller marks with satin. You cannot touch up a satin small area on a wall. .Satin, certainly is easier to keep clean. But just know that you will paint the whole wall over and it does give a sheen. Now, for the doors you want to do a satin, I personally cannot stand semi gloss. But after years of painting houses with it, I've completely stopped using it. Satin is the way to go if you're going to use your pure white. You can roll your flat pure white right up and onto the ceiling. You do not need to change to ceiling white. It will actually make the room look taller instead of having a stopping point with the white ceiling that is only if you use the flat. The pure white paint is almost like a white linen cabinet. It doesn't have yellow, nor does the alabaster which is a tad warmer . The extra white is very bright and white. And it should only be used for painting trims and furnishings.

Use your satin on doors and trims in same color as the walls. Best of luck

Matte on walls. It is very slow sheen but has a nice velvety appearance. I by far prefer matte over eggshell or satin.
