Do you have a Pair?

Pair eyeglass frames? I’m thinking about getting a Pair, as shown in this website

Pair eyewear

and maybe a couple of toppers whether from them or aftermarket. It seems some aftermarket have stronger magnets for the toppers . Do you have them? How is the quality? I found a frame I like, even by itself, and it would be nice to snap on different fronts, or sunglasses. I could take them to my local optician for the lenses.

One of my really good friends has similar glasses that she is able to snap sunglasses on to. Whenever we are out anywhere and I’m struggling to take off my glasses and put on my sunglasses, she just pulls out a very thin cases and clicks her sunglasses in place. I am totally green with envy! She’s had her style for quite a while now and absolutely loves it.

I try not to buy this kind of stuff online. Buying onllne then expecting a local optician to lose out on that sale and provide a service on frames they didn't sell, seems unfair to me. and I don't want to lose those small businesses in my community. What if the frames need adjusting? Or some other problem that you'd have to mail them back? Or the optician breaks them installing lenses or ??? IDK it just seems unethical to me to take advantage of your local businesses.

My offspring get theirs on line and save hundreds of dollars. It can take a few attempts to get the prescription on the lens properly but at $30 a pop you can get a handful for what one frame costs in the optical shops. This is the exact price gouging we heard so much about last year. There is no reason for brick and mortar stores to take the mark ups they do!!

There are brick and mortar shops charging a lot less than the opticians' offices too, not just on the frames but on the lenses. The optician's office here does seem to sell mostly designer brands, premium features and both DH and DS order their glasses there. DIL went there but I'm not sure where she ordered glasses or new lenses.

Oly, Pair does most prescription lenses themselves. They send them in the frame and then you get additional tops to change the look. I have thought I might try them at some point.. I have a friend who loves them, so I got a gift card for DS and DIL to each try a pair. DIL tried them and said she didn't like them. I think that is her though -- she doesn't like other people picking out things for her. I think she returned them and didn't try another. I should check and see if the gift cards are still unused and find a way to make use of them.

Based on their store locator feature it looks like Pair eyewear is sold at America's Best. There are several locations near me that carry their frames.

I only wear bold, crazy frames. I don't have any normal frames. It is very difficult to find styles I like in local optical shops. I have tried purchasing fun frames elsewhere and taking them to local shops for lenses. They usually say they can't fill the order because the lenses are either too big or the shape of the lenses are not round. I have several pairs of prescription glasses and lately have been purchasing the lenses online. I send my prepurchased frames to them and they send them back fitted with prescription lenses.

I typically wear contacts for most of the day. As far as the glasses that I only wear late in the day or when allergies make wearing glasses impossible, I buy one pair, my main pair locally, then buy a fun back-up pair or two on line. Like the idea of snap on sunglasses for my next set.

I've always bought my glasses locally from my optometrist's office, but this time I couldn't find any I liked after looking several times there and at another seller. So, I tried online. I have a fairly complicated prescription, so I am nervous. Last time lenses and frames set me back almost $800. I ordered glasses and sunglasses for less than $300 total. But, we shall see this week when they get delivered if it was a good choice or not.

Friday, America’s Best is where I saw them and tried on a pair. I didn’t see any non-Pair on the walls that I liked as well, even without the toppers. But the toppers would be the ”icing on the cake”. I read that Pair’s own magnets aren’t that strong, but some of the online makers (and some are in the US) have stronger magnets that hold better.

Jill, that’s what I’m thinking, it would be a good idea to have a backup pair with my current prescription, so why not get something versatile?

Bpath -- that is what I was thinking for my son and DIL - a back up or a fun pair. Seemed like a perfect idea for them. If the gift cards haven't been used, I may got to an America's Best and take a look at them.

How fun! I've never seen these before. I typically wear contacts morning to night, but I do need glasses for bedtime and a backup. I love the idea of being able to change out the color of your glasses. I've had the same one pair of frames for ages and got an updated prescription but just haven't gotten around to using it. Now if only I could remember where I put it in the move...

I got a pair five years ago and they were cheaper than getting locally. The prescription was spot on and never had a problem with toppers. My lens were thinner than any lens I've ever had. I ordered another design frame again. My new ones had a problem with progressive but I called and talked with them and they are sending me out replacement glasses priority mail. I cannot say enough good about them.

Many years ago I had clip-on sunglasses. They made my frames uncomfortably heavy.

As for where I buy frames, I used to replace my frames every year with the local shop. Then I found a discontinued Celine frame that is chunky and petit for my pin-head. They are the frame style I’ve searched for years. Have them in black and tortise, plus two extra pairs of each color for when these wear out.

Same for my sunglasses….Chanel made these small/large frames for a minute that are the perfect size and shape. I own two pairs, again for when the first wears out.

And, no….my style hasn’t change in decades and I don’t care what the cool kids are wearing🤣

I haven’t looked at the link yet, but DD got something similar last year for her reding glasses. I don’t recall the brand. She is a big Peanuts fan since childhood and chose a snap on pair withntheir theme. They are cute and she loves to change up the look.

I purchased the Pair Readers. When my prescription changed, I took both frames to our Walmart Optical and they put in the new lenses. (Over $600 for both pair of lenses - no insurance used.) What is disappointing is how the PAIR Company treats their customers when things don’t go as expected.

Shipping is slow on one of their good days, but when it gets screwed up… they just point the finger at their customers. One holiday pair didn’t show up for 3 weeks. Tracking information never changed. PAIR Company kept saying it would arrive-it hasn’t!

They won’t refund the money or exchange. Wouldn’t even offer to overnight prior to holiday when asked. I’m told I have to wait for the frames to arrive and only then can I initiate a return.

There are so many options online for the frames at better prices and the same, or in some cases higher quality options. Not a fan of this brand and their customer service. I know some local optical shops offer these, maybe better customer service there.

My prescription is not straightforward so I buy from local opticians. My current frames use magnetic sunglasses or clip-ons, whatever you want to call them.

I have bought glasses from Warby Parker and had no problem.
