Bamboo Flooring

I no longer like bamboo but since we have a couple of existing bamboo floors we are replacing two rooms of carpet with bamboo. I'm finding it hard to find in the stores. Is bamboo outdated?

I am not a fan of click -lock floors. The click-lock systems are not rigid enough on some floors. I prefer the old fashion tongue and groove glue. These style floors are usually thicker than click-locks.

Yes, Bamboo is outdated. Replace it with a classic style floor.

Do you think it's ok to put the classic style floor in the room right next to the bamboo floors? I can't afford to replace the bamboo floors yet.

Then wait to do it all in one consistent finish. It is a detriment to resale to have different wood species butting next to each other. Just looks like you cheeped out. It would be better to just replace the carpet with new carpet.

🙄 Duh. Sick of carpet but I had not thought of just temporarily replacing the carpet with an inexpensive carpet and waiting till later. Thanks for the advice that's worth considering.

I accompanied a friend who wanted bamboo floors to several flooring stores. She was told they carry very little of it because they've had so much trouble with it post-sale. Don't know if that's correct but that's what we heard.

Bamboo floating floors was a big problem. The product was sealed on all sides including the tongue and groove. It caused the boards to seperate over time. Also, the tongue and groove profile easily fractures. Which contributes to the seperation issue. Bamboo came and went pretty fast. You can refinish what you have, But, if, you need a repair, it will be pretty impossible to get material to do so. It's a one and done type floor choice.

G&S, is the floating floor problem just with the bamboo or a problem in general with floating floors? I really like the idea of a floating or click lock to make things so much easier but finding that most bamboo and hardwoods are nail/clue down. Trying to remember our choices without looking...

Typically Bamboo in general. It is a crappy wood (unstable) for flooring at the end of the day.

Vinyl floating click lock has been proving to fail over time especially under things like an office chair w wheels.

Considering all the comments, it seems that bamboo is out as well as LVP because most of them are click lock. The only thing remaining is hardwood and carpet.

Laminate flooring and engineered hardwood can be considered as well.
