The problem is with your lightings, not with the paint or the floor. I'd add three j-boxes spaced through the length of this hallway, and add a fixture with bright bulb to each. It will illuminate your hallway well, and hanging 3 lights has a really pleasing sense of repetition. I'm sure you can find some modern coastal fixtures that would be both decorative and very functional.

This is an example of what not to do. This space still has dark gaps in the middle where light is not illuminating the walls and it is very dreary. They could have put sconces with up and down lights on that part of the hallway where they were not able to add a ceiling fixture because of the vents.

Agree with Kendrah, you need more lighting. Then add some art/photos to the walls.

I also agree with Kendrah, you need better lighting, and use led daylight type bulbs in those fixtures. The bulbs now, cast a yellow light, which contributes to the darkness.

With eight foot ceilings I would only do recessed cans, 4”, 3000 kelvin bulbs. You’d be amazed how the lights actually gets all the way down to the floor, versus now where all the light is at the ceiling. Also art- that looks so depressing right now. I don’t think the color is the problem.
