Help With Designing This Space

Just moved in and I’d really like to keep the couches and replace the chairs and rug. Also, debating a large ottoman or coffee table. Any design inspiration or product suggestions are appreciated!

The couches need to separate a bit more so the chairs are not behind the arms if the couch.

I'd want this space to be a lounging relaxed area, a tv and laptop/talking family area. The way to make those couches fit in would be with large ottomans and the tv moved lower on the open wall. Couches at right angles. Ottomans also work as tables with trays for snacking while using the space. If you decide to replace the couches this is the lounging layout.

The ottoman is movable.

You have an open concept great room. The living space is a family room. Super relaxed.

Suggest you move couches into an L shape and put the two chairs in the open space in place of the couch that you move. In other words put one couch facing the TV. The second couch stays perpendicular and the chairs go where the other couch is now. Give that a try to see how it feels before you go out to buy new furniture.

Fill the shelves with decor and it’ll feel so much more complete.

I love the sofas and love them facing each other. I like the rug, but also think the space would benefit from another rug that would ground it more. It is hard to know how to pic a rug without knowing your tastes or budget. No matter the style, I'm inclined towards a rug that is black and tan with a bit of off white thrown in.

I'd go for a rounded coffee table because I see you have kids and might not want sharp corners. I like this curvey brown oak coffee table with your sofas. While your kitchen and built ins are more traditional, I think you can still use this more contemporary table in the space.

I'd also get some very small drink tables to put on the ends of the sofas to sit a phone or book.

Smart to get rid of the chairs. The space in between the kitchen and sofa area might feel desolate. I'd get another rug and have two very large round ottomans placed slightly diagonal from one another. It would be a great place for kids to flop down.
