Undermount Sink - workstation worth it?

Looking for a great single bowl undermount sink with quartz white calacatta countertops. Want something classic and need 30"x18" (maybe 19). I like the idea of workstation but wonder if the ledges are annoying to clean and storing the accessories. Is offset drain the way to go? Send me your fav sinks!

Ledges are annoying to clean. The only accessory I ever use is the roll up drying rack. That said I don’t regret it. Make sure to get eased corners not 90° corners.

IMO ahuge waste of money for a sink . The ledges are a PITA the grid on the bottom too.The othe pieces for chopping, straining etc when in use cut the sink i 1/2 Get a good quality undermount stainless sink deep one bowl and if you must that silly grid . I do not find the offset drain and issue one way or the other . FYI I rin a catering biz from my home never had a grid in the bottom my sinks , back to back, are 18 yrs old and with abit of stainless cleaner once in a while still look great. They actually are from Ikea .

For me I just don't understand the appeal of a workstation sink especially if it is the only sink in the kitchen. You have all these pieces that need to be removed and stored to actually use the sink to clean dishes. Plus the cutting board just seems small and goes in one direction and not the direction I would want when using a cutting board.

I prefer a nice size stainless single bowl sink and I do like the grid. I have the Kraus KHU100-32 as my cleanup sink but I also have a prep sink. It is just as easy to use a cutting board next to the sink rather then on the sink. And the drying rack makes no sense to me either. If you have things drying on the rack and want to use the sink those things drying will get water splash and soap splash on them. Plus the drying rack is small. I usually have several hand wash items and they are large not small. One pot would take up the whole drying rack.

Thank you this is exactly what I wanted to know! Definitely not going with the work station. Sounds like SS is the way to go? Any other recs? Would love links of specific ones to look at. It's overwhelming and I am not good with so many choices. ;)

Also this isn't our forever house so not making a huge investment.

I think it depends on your sink size, and on the exact accessory. I have a tiny Kohler wire caddy, this one. It's surprisingly useful for holding wet or messy things that I don't want to set on the counter, or down with dirty dishes in the sink basin. I have a 29" sink so it's as much rack as we can have without blocking sink function. If we had a larger sink we would definitely love a larger rack. You could use the roll-up drying racks like Hallet has but I like having it sit below the sink, keep cleaning brushes, dishcloth, etc more otu of sight.

At least wait for some more replies ... the workstation sink lovers haven't had a chance to respond, and there are many of them!

I like my Julien (Home Refinements) 30" sink with 18" integrated drainboard, so the opening is 48". I like that the sink is 18" front to back and 10" high. You can buy accessories and they sit on the counter. Wouldn't want a sink without a grid on the bottom and most people like having the grid.

My dishwasher sits under the drainboard, so I didn't need a giant sink cabinet.

I have had a single bowl, under mount stainless for twenty years. it looks like the day it went in.

I have a dozen clients with this one - no goo in the corners!! Plenty big. It will outlive you and

    the kitchen

PS..... Nobody bothers with the grid past day three.: ) Just another thing to clean the pancake batter off.

I've installed hundreds of workstation sinks and have gotten a callback now and again. Never once has anyone ever complained about the ledges in workstation sinks being difficult to clean. Throw this into the myth pile along with belt buckles scratching stainless steel sink aprons please.

Only men wear belts in the kitchen when doing the dishes they mostly DON'T do...............? Sorry Joe, couldn't resist. As far as "workstation" ? I have not any client who needed OR WANTED it. They want the counter space, and they know how to prep. ?

Are you storing a cutting board? Are you storing a colander? There's no difference if you are using those items on the counter or in the sink. No big deal wiping the ledges off. It takes two seconds when you're cleaning the sink. I'd get one with two ledges so you can stack your accessories. After owning a workstation sink for many years now, I would definitely get one again even if it was my only sink. If you like keeping your counters and floor cleaner, its the way to go. Everything gets brushed into the sink or into the bowl that you are prepping into.
