New bedroom based on crazy rug

We are redecorating my son‘s room. Please send help! 🤦‍♀️ Lol. These are the before photos.

He picked out a new 8x10 rug, mostly white with brightly colored triangles and squares (pictured). (The Blue shag is outta here!) I don‘t want the room to look overly kiddish. This full size bed is being replaced with a new queen.

Please help me with:

-paint color,

-bedding, &

-bed or headboard inspirations!

All ideas welcome! I really appreciate well curated spaces but struggle making cohesive choices on my own. Many thanks in advance!

Very dynamic richly colored addition. Does it come larger? Cause a queen is going to cover a lot. I'd get pint matches from SW and continue the pattern all the way up the right wall. You can use poster paper also.

Don't worry about that fantastic rug being kiddish. I have seen similar in living rooms.

I'd let your son select the paint color and furniture. He clearly has great taste!

I'd like to see army green bed linens with this, wood headboard, bedside tables, new more modern looking fan.
