I don’t see any claustrophobia bc it’s a very big kitchen and we have 2nd set of windows with skylights and no window treatments so this might counter balance that with some softness. I also don’t think it will make it difficult to clean around on the counters, since it won’t even reach the counter. And, the window itself is not greasy.

You've posted this picture before and gotten reactions. You do you. If you want a curtain like pictured then do it.

Yes, I have posted this picture before. And from the reactions I have decided not to do nothing with my second set of windows. I am moving forward with this. It is a different question… This time I am moving forward with it but it’s the height question.

The height of the drapes is a moot point. I agree with others - tieback drapes above a kitchen sink are out of the ordinary and I would not hang them there.

You have lovely windows, and you're talking about covering them with curtains that look like something my grandma had in her living room in the 1960s. No.

- This is "too much". Kitchens are, first and foremost, work spaces, and the sink is the hardest-working space in any kitchen -- it's not a place for overly fussy curtains.

- They make your windows look so much smaller.

- The curtains touch the countertop, which will mean they'll get dirty /wet and will become a maintenance issue.

- They don't look even remotely kitchen-appropriate.

Yes, you need some sort of window covering. Without it, the windows will become big, black boxes at night -- but you're going in a bad direction. Since you want something traditional, I'd suggest plantation shutters and a valance over the top. Or a simple shade. Or a shorter curtain that doesn't touch the countertop.

This isn't a matter of taste. The curtains you're proposing just don't fit into a kitchen.

The height should work since the drapes will align just an inch below the ceiling, creating a cohesive look with the outside-mounted shade. Given that your cabinets are 4 inches below the ceiling, the balance should be fine. If you prefer a slightly more integrated look, lowering them a bit and hemming might be worth considering, but it’s not necessary unless the gap feels too noticeable.

No, it is not too high. It is a lot of fabric, so hang the rod as high as you can.

That said, I am in agreement that it is too much fabric for the area. So make sure you can launder the fabrics. You will have to remove all the items I see: paper towels, medicine, detergent, butter(?). BTW, the view is very nice. You would rather have window treatments than the view?

The woodwork around the window is lovely...consider painting the walls a color you love.
