The only time I ever had seedlings was around Rosa Glauca in Alaska.

Seeds could have been dropped by birds too or come in on mulch etc. How interesting.

I get lots of rose seedlings, but 99% of them are multiflora, lol. I've had the rare non-multiflora seedling come up in in pots in my pot ghetto, but none of them were worth keeping...so far. I'm the type that just has to know/take a chance, so I pot them up and let them grow.

If you have wild multiflora roses (or any wild rose) anywhere near you, chances are your seedlings are bird sown. But yes, many, even most, roses set seed if you don't dead head and allow the hips to form.

Thanks @Sheila z8a Rogue Valley OR and @fig_insanity Z7b E TN. I don't have any wild roses around me, and they did start after I started my own rose garden, so I assume it's that. I'll post again if they bloom. With any luck I'll have the new million dollar rose and can retire. ;)

Robert, you'd better be praying for a true sky blue rose if you hope to make a million bucks, lol.
