wallpaper around door/entryway

last month

We are putting grasscloth wallpaper in our primary bedroom. We have rounded corners in our bedroom. Initially the agreement was to wrap the wallpaper around the entryway to the other side which would then allow the wallpaper to terminate on a straight edge inside corner. The designer we are working with has instead insisted on framing the doors with the wallpaper like in the photos. It may be hard to tell in the photos, but the border left along the entryway is not evenly spaced all around. Is this an acceptable way to wallpaper when you have rounded corners? Thanks

Acceptable is subjective. Did you accept it? If you did then it is acceptable. I’d add a trim to cover the edges (which in grasscloth are never going to be perfect).

It looks good to me. It creates a frame around the door which is nice. I think AiFL's suggestion about adding a trim would help make it look finished.

This does not sound like the whole room is being wallpapered so an accetn wall is always best done on a wall with no doors or windows . Seeing a little tiny portion of a wall is not helpful . Best is you post a pic of the whole space and why that wallpaper . Accent walls need to connect to things in the space .I also do nut think it works without proper trim on the door

It is the whole room being done not an accent wall but our designer did not order enough wallpaper so the room is unfinished at this point. would anyone wrap the entryway frame with the wallpaper?

The whole room is being wallpapered but its not finished yet because our designer is short 6 rolls

Would anyone wrap the entryway with the wallpaper?

No, we did not accept it the way its - we had asked for the entrywaycto be wrapped and this is what we were left with.

Whose house is it? Is the designer paying the bill? Get it the way you want.

    I like it as is.

    Okay -

First, it is your house - the designer should not be making decisions like this without your prior approval. I can't believe that a designer would "insist" on doing something differently than what her/his client wants.

I would have trim on the opening - or I would want it wrapped (I think I understand what you mean by that - it will create a clean look in the room without an odd ending of the wallpaper) = redoing the wallpaper since it's been cut short already. If the wallpaper is being used on all walls - is there trim installed around doorways/windows (providing a place for the paper to run into vs. doing something similar to what has been done on the opening that you've posted).

It would really bother me to see unfinished edges of grasscloth + uneven spacing of the "border" left around the opening.

Another potentially huge issue is that your designer didn't order enough rolls (six rolls short is quite a bit off when estimating wallpaper - unless the designer does not understand how to determine how much wallpaper to order - you can't simply buy enough based upon sf needed - it has to do with how the pattern repeats - I know how to order wallpaper correctly - and I've only installed it once with my mom several years ago).

Has your designer CONFIRMED IN WRITING that the additional six rolls will be from the same color lot # as the rolls that have been installed? Different runs of wallpaper will vary a bit (colors might be just a tiny bit off OR might be very noticeable) . - just like different runs on tile (there have been quite a few posts over the last few years that I've been a member on Houzz where people have posted about issues due to different tile runs being used = very obvious color differences once installed.

Perhaps a reason for not wrapping would be that a rounded corner would be more to ripping, snagging and tearing, especially grass cloth?

Is there a technical reason they can’t wrap it? I can’t imagine real grass cloth would be able to wrap that tight radius without wrinkling and creasing oddly so this would be preferable. Faux grass cloth is another story.

They only ordered 8 rolls to begin with and now they are saying we need six more rolls. i also have a hard time wrapping my head around how they could be so off. they actually are refusing to address the issue of the color match problem that could arise when ordering from different color runs. we are very worried about that problem and the fact that they want us to sign something that says they are not responsible for what the wallpaper looks like once they order it.

Do not sign anything. Wallpaper & installation is expensive you don't want to be stuck with a finished product you are not happy with.

STOP NOIW I can bet money that the new rolls will not match what you have and honestly I really would be rethinking a whole room in that paper and for sure new installers who could not measure the first time .
