Foundation Planting Options

last year

We have decided to stay in our home vs downsizing and making everyday chores as easy as possible. Nutsedge completey took over the beds and I didn't have the time/energy to fight it as we removed all of our foundation plantings two years ago and replaced with sod. Actually our foundation is a beautiful brick to grade and I love the simplicity of the clean look. Post two years and I now think it is missing something and would like to add a little bit.

1. Don't want to deal with mulch (ordering, delivering, laying, maintaining)

2. Don't want to get down on my hands and knees

3. Any weed pulling would have to be at a minimal if at all

My thought is to place raised beds or planters along the front vs mulched beds. I want it to look attractive but manageable. Any suggestions would be helpful - pictures would be amazing(I can't find any examples except for in my head).
