We had an old, hardwired dishwasher removed but were told we needed to upgrade electrical before a new one could be installed, which we did, you see the outlet visible in photos. So for short time the dishwasher tailpiece was left unattached. We had a rudimentary cap put on it, which couldn't get a tight seal, and assumed tailpiece would immediately leak when the kitchen faucet was used. And... it did not leak. Not at all. Which I thought was strange, But good. Then life intervened with a serious family illness and we put off getting a new dishwasher. After all, there was no leaking from the tailpiece. None. It seemed ok to leave as-is (yes, we know that a kitchen sink clog/backup would have caused a big leak but that didn't happen). Last week we decided to buy a new faucet because the aerator on old one broke off and as a one-piece, the whole thing needed replacement (faucet in photos is the new one). And we're ready to shop again for new dishwasher. Well, when this new faucet runs, water does routinely leak from the tailpiece.

Setting aside the mystery of why old faucet didn't do this, and new one does, my questions are: is it normal for running (not clogged) sink water to routinely leak out an unattached tailpiece (and we got bizarrely lucky it didn't happen before)? And if so, is a high loop installation of new dishwasher drain hose enough to control this? I'm hoping the answer is, "Yes, of course", but is there anything to be wary of with how things look? Does the fact that dishwasher will be perpendicular to sink and not right next to it impact the drainage hose in any way? Also, what if we don't run the dishwasher every day? Might be hard for some on this site to believe, but we didn't use the old dishwasher much and in this interim when we've had none, have gotten along fine with handwashing. Is only intermittent use (several times a week but not every day) a recipe for mold growth/grossness in the drain hose?
