Front Double Door Exterior and Interior Paint

Hi Houzz Community! I search and didn’t see an answer on the site. We are ordering double doors with full panes and wondering if we should paint the interior the same as the exterior? We picked a dark blue as our color. Inside trim is antique white, and the walls are about to be a linen color. We are going for dark blue in both sides. Wondering what the opinion is out there. Thanks!

Given that your furniture seems to warm browns, I would not paint the interior of the door blue. It will be an eyesore. In general, no one thinks the interior and exterior color of doors needs to be the same.

The furniture is grey and the curtains are navy blue. Don’t think my picture did our room any favors.

The trim and door are already antique white. And painting the walls linen. We agree that it should be the color of the existing interior too. So, only blue on exterior. If we had a more modern house (and larger), this might be a different story. We think having the blue color might be a hard stop on the eyes. 😊

We installed Provia Heritage fiberglass doors which are available in five blue and three white factory paints, among others. The exterior and interior colors can be different. I'd go with white on the inside.

The blue color will also not go with a change of interior colors, someday, down the line, when you or someone else wants an entirely different color scheme.

Thank you, trusty Houzz friends! We ordered our doors and went with antique white to match the trim and the color of the current door. Interior. They are going to look wonderful! I read about the new trend: paint your interior doors separate from your room trim. Not liking trends, I asked my rep at Home Depot. His answer was it is whatever made me happy. Not liking that, I went to trusty Houzz. Thanks, again!!!

I wouldn't do double doors in your space.

Hi Chispa. Um, can you tell me why you think we shouldn’t have double doors?

Double doors are inherent leakers (especially ones of dubious quality) and should not be used without a serious overhang, and from all appearances you have not much of an overhand at all. The right door will hit the wall and most likely not not even hit 90 degrees.

Welp, comment appreciated, millworkman. And now I understand the “concern” about us having double doors. However, we have a covered front porch that runs the full length of our house. Our current front door doesn’t swing open all of the way due to the wall. With the double doors, the left swing door is semi stationary, and the right door is the full access point and 180 degree swing. With full light doors, we have more light coming in that is somewhat currently limited with solid steel door - which is beat up by previous owners’ dog - and the covered porch. Deeply appreciate the professional opinion though. I know my picture. didn’t show our space very well, but was asking a paint question. You definitely gave pause for well thought out consideration. But we are making room for elderly parents. 😊
