Let's see if I can load a one minute film of my rose, taken a couple of days ago:

Huh. I appears I can't: the film is shown in my file, but is invisible when I bring up the same file here on Houzz. I guess Houzz means it when they say their software supports Youtube and Vimeo (by implication) ONLY.

So as a consolation prize, here's a beauty shot of a few blooms of AJ:

I think they're a little more purple than in reality. Anyway, the peak of a fine flowering, and notice how healthy the foliage is, in spite of a gray, cool spring.

@Melissa Northern Italy zone 8, “they just grow”… I think the average non-gardener would be flabbergasted to associate this statement with roses. ;) Hurrah for OGRs!

So pretty, Melissa. I have a weakness for somewhat shaggy blooms, they just appear more romantic to me, which of course in my eyes the old roses are.

Thanks, all: I'm glad you folks like it. @ jjkOC: 'bush' doesn't cover it: it's a very big climber. That's why I wanted to film and share the whole plant, as it can't be captured in a single photo. It's an outstanding demonstration of how a large shrub Tea can convert into a climber if given favorable conditions, support, and a need to climb to reach the sun. My plant of 'Mrs. B.R. Cant' close to the house also grows as a climber, while two plants out in the big garden, growing in full sun and harsh conditions, are cheerful shrubs. Actually, there's an AJ out there in similar conditions that grows as a shrub as well.

I asked DH to go out and measure AJ. He gives a width and height of 6m (slightly corrected by me: DH is an optimist).

Melissa, I happened upon your post of ten months ago which does show a lot more of MT, and it is very large! I hadn't really thought of bush tea roses as climbers but do remember now that my Duchesse de Brabant, grown against a house wall, did climb, but the big ground squirrel munch fest interfered before it could be anything like your MT.

On a serious note, your plants are a reminder of how astounding these old varieties are in their potential girth and productivity!

jjkOC: That's right. And as a reminder of the importance of the right growing conditions, these roses are not watered--we live in an area that generally gets good rain--or fertilized. They just grow.
