So today marks my third attempt at air layering. I attempted this twice before using a black garbage bag (cut/modified to size), aluminum foil (to block out the sun) & a towel wrapped around that aluminum foil, to absorb some of the heat. Both of my previous attempts failed. 😊
But last fall, Amazon had a sale on these air layering pods which I learned about on YouTube, so I bought them.
Anyways....now that we're in Spring, I decided to have a go at attempt #3 of air layering. I purchased two Elderberry shrubs from online & they're coming along just nicely. But a fee days ago, I noticed another Elderberry shrub growing in an odd place; between the gravel at my mini-gazebo.
I'm afraid that if I uproot it, it'll die. So, I decided to attempt to air layer it. According to what I've learned on YouTube & various online searches, it should take anywhere from 6-10 weeks to successfully develop roots. So I'm giving it exactly 10 weeks from today, which would be July 17/2025. Unfortunately I don't have any rooting hormones. 😔
I just wanted to post this online so that if anyone has any suggestions or ideas, I can take it into account.
