Bottom line is it isn't hideous. You're moving, add hardware to the cabinets and save your effort for the next kitchen and let the next person change it. You bought the place? So will someone ELSE.

Skip painting cabinets, paint the trim on counter to match the ( laminate? ) or.......change the tops entirely. In no way would I paint the cabinets - which does not one thing for the awkward layout.

IMO not a bad kitchen I for sure would not spend money painting those cabinets . I agree we need to see the upgrades you already have made. A year will go quickly save the money for the next project . I think you already spent money i would not have bothered with .When ready to list clean all the stuff off the counters, clean the space and clean agin and price to sell.

Oh my. The garbage as a focal point has got to go! I put ours under our kitchen sink even with the plumbing it works. You might have to adjust some chemicals under there or change your trash can, but that is a must. At least put it elsewhere to start.

I like the cabinet color just fine. Everything else is way too white. I would paint the walls and it will immediately change everything. Paint goes a long way. If you can afford it, do a fun tile backsplash. Choose the tile first and paint according to what you pick. Pick a pattern or color and compliment it with the wall color. Make sure the tile looks great with your existing cabinet color as you main goal. Under the window, I'd add a cute cabinet/shelf, maybe something you find on FB Marketplace, a Flea Market, or a store like TJ Maxx. Baskets would be cute on it like a little pantry extension or if it has doors, put your pans in there. Then of course cabinet hardware you like.

It could take you a while to do anything you've proposed. You're moving in a year? Leave it be except for possibly decluttering and making sure it's uber clean. The next owners can remodel it, and your efforts will have been in vain. MAYBE get a counter height table or cabinet to place between the sink and stove for more work space. The garbage can go anywhere.

Once you accessorize the kitchen it will look fine. As suggested install hardware on the cabinets. Install a natural fibre or bamboo roman shade on the window and find a stand alone butcher block to fit the space in front of the window which would be practical next to the stove.
