I bet you are right, Jeri. I have gotten multiples with gopher damage and I guess they aerate the soil.

Sheila, I'm so glad you posted your GH here for me to admire. My single stem of GH has a tiny shoot coming out so at least I know it's not dead. If I and my roses are still here next year I will for sure get another GH and make certain it's a lusty plant.
